Question Of Religious Beliefs That Could Differ in Poland

I think that this would be the proper area to put this in? Helps and needs. TO ALL MODS! IF THIS NEEDS TO BE MOVED! BY ALL MEANS MOVE IT TO THE PROPER AREA!

Well ok here it goes.

I am thinking of moving to Poland. Kraków in particular. Is Wicca/ Paganism looked down upon in Poland? I am an Occultist as well, well in the sense that I study it rather than practice anything having to do with it. To anyone of the Christian religion reading this, no I do not study anything having to do with Satan. Wiccans do not believe in Satan. Not to contradict your personal belief which indeed I do respect. But no, there is no Satan in Wicca.

Basically I am wondering if I go there as a Wiccan, will I be hanged (no speaking literally of course).

I don't think anyone in Poland even knows what a Wiccan is!

I am quite sure they do. If I am not mistaken, Poland in it's past has a rich Pagan History

Just don't share your beliefs with the nosy old lady who might be living next door and attends the Mass every morning.
Wicca, as well as yoga and contraceptives, is on the RC's black list, still lots of people in Poland practise yoga, use contraceptives and some of them are even Wiccans. Don't worry, you'll be safe in Kraków, nobody's going to burn you at a stake, unless you want to befriend orthodox Catholic circles.

Good advice.

I'm not sure about Krakow these days, but there's quite a strong occult scene in Warsaw. Thelema and Chaos are especially popular and there are various Wiccan traditions operating around the country.

If you're interested in Shamanism, have a look at this website: taraka.pl

Having said that, an old lady was arrested for witchcraft about five years ago after her neighbour accused her of stopping the hens laying eggs. She was released by the prosecutor on the grounds that it would be impossible to prove.

will "I am a wiccan" be your opening statement? really- it is nobodies business unless you make it obvious. There are loads of alternative religions here. My husbands cousin is a practicing "fake buddhist"--he follows the diamond way- which is not real buddhism...and nobody bothers him.

Yes, down near Zakopane somewhere.

what is that exactly? sth suspicious, strange, unexplainable, odd,....?

Quite. Whatever it is, the lady was arrested but the prosecutors decided they couldn't make a case.

Care to explain?

I mean your standing on the Rydzyk's issue, you must hang out with a pretty primitive minded people. What about an independent and critical thinking armed with knowledge ? Are those qualities exist any-more?

What like yours?
quote Ironside: you are a dumb dick

lax minds

Referring to me? I may have my faults but teaching two hundred university students per week keeps me pretty sharp.

Is he implying what I think that he is implying ? :)
JonnyM  11 | 2607

I don't think he or she is implying anything:

Basically I am wondering if I go there as a Wiccan, will I be hanged

Seems straightforward, open and honest to me.

Why does anyone feel like talking if he or she is Wiccan, Pagan, Christian or Muslim? If you keep this to yourself, as it should be, then I gues there is no risk anywhere. But even when say around that you are Wiccan, nothing bad will happen to you in Poland.

so 'we'/they are still at square one. sorry, id1ots.

strange that human history is full of misunderstanding and suspicion for the 'abnormal' though normal is by far not only a spot on the behaviour line...

Only that those who others want to marginalise, who don't quite fit in with the herd are often the best people.
