In Poland you carry a box of ballons which you hurriedly blow up if you suspect an accident is about to occur.....Unfortunatly , the blowing up of the balloons has been the cause of several accidents here.....
New cars are about the same as the rest or Europe, and rather more expensive than the US. Used cars here vary, but generally for up market cars it would be safer to buy elsewhere. If you import from the rest of Europe, there is no VAT as it is normally paid in the country of purchase. From the US you have to pay 22% VAT. There is also a import duty of 3.1% on cars up to 2000cc and 13.6% for cars over that.
Does anyone here know what the actual procedure/paperwork required is?
I'm also interested in importing a tax free car to Poland and using it there for a year. Does anybody know if I can avoid the local taxes..? I am going to move back to my home country after that year and take the car with me.

the prices are dropping fast in poland at the moment
About time too, I've noticed second hand car prices in Poland seem expensive compared to here in the UK. I've also noticed a lack of quality stock (Mercedes/BMW/Lexus etc) so perhaps this is one reason for the higher prices?
A couple of years ago I looked into buying a Merc SL500 over there but couldn't find very many and the ones I did find were not in very good condition and also seemed expensive compared to RHD models.
I live in the states and have a 99 porsche boxster, automatic. it has around 75k. any idea if it would be in demand in poland? what about the custom tax for bring in used car from the US? any suggestion is appreciated.

Thats because we have left hand drive cars so therefore no use really other than on our island, whereas in Poland they can sell their cars to other Europeans as they all drive right hand drive cars, I know you can convert a car but that's also costly. I thought being a man you would have understood that ;0)
I'd like to ship my US spec (orange turn signals)'06 Volvo from the US to Poland. I'll be living there indefinitely. How Do I go about finding out about taxes/duties and registration procedures for a non-EU expat? Thanx!
New car prices for a few selected models now stand as follows. How they compare to your local prices depends entirely on the złoty’s exchange rate against the currency you use: Alfa Romeo Mito 49,900zł Suzuki Swift 39,000zł Chevrolet Aveo 34,450zł Opel Agila 37,900zł Fiat Panda 29,700zł Fiat 500 41,000zł Fiat 600 23,490zł Ford Ka 34,600zł Dacia Logan (Romanian Renault) 29,500zł
Prices of used cars and bikes are expensive in Poland compared to UK or ireland, where the prices have dropped drastically. But they are also expensive in Germany. Polish people buy crashed vehicles and bring them back to poland and repair cheaper, so there would be a good perchantage of repaired cars and bikes on polish roads.
There is no extra VAT if bought in EU. If bringing a vehicle from UK or ireland, to poland, it has to be changed to left hand drive, and in a lot of cases, it does work out at a good price for the buyer.
You only need to bring the vehicle documents including the receipt for money paid, and get them translated, and get MOT or NCT (TEST) on the vehicle.
A vehicle from outside the EU will have extra taxes and VAT to be paid.
I think you're a little mixed up. Firstly, Mainland Europe drive left hand drive and in the UK it's right hand drive.
I was wondering why cars in Poland are expensive. They drive LHD in Poland just like the rest of Europe and the production of LHD vehicles vastly outweighs RHD. Manufacturers build more LHD cars so there is much more stock and the rules of supply and demand would suggest that this would depress prices because there are thousands more of every single car model to choose from, but it doesn't in Poland, cars seem to be more expensive there, so why is this?
This doesn't take into account the ease of transporting and importing cars across Europe e.g. you could buy a LHD car in Italy and drive it back to Poland, which means there is the whole of Europe to choose from when buying a car, so why don't Polish people buy cars in a cheaper country and drive them home?
We are unable to do this here in the UK, we only have here (and South Africa, Australia & New Zealand though shipping and importing costs make this non-viable) to buy our cars from and yet prices seem cheaper than in Poland.
