How to Politely Refuse a Drink in Poland

When I had enough, I usually just accept the shot, pretend to drink it, then pass it on to a willing drunk closest to me. If they catch on, I pour another round and do the same thing again. And again, until they give up or we run out of vodka. Theoretically, you'd think it would not work, but I swear, it does.

You know in Poland you can also loose you're driving lisence or go to jail and its also taken seriously. WHY DO YOU THINK IT'S NOT?! Again talking bs you self-hating Pole??

Does it mean that "pijaks" are not scared of "strict" american law? Why do you think that it's only polish thing? Why not just human thing? I can bet that you can find Americans of all descentants who DUI. Many of your Hollywood stars do it and it seems they aren't scare of american "strict" law and nothing really big happens (how many times Lindsay Lohan was caught DUI?).

Btw how is it possible that in Poland the acceptable (by law) amount of alkohol in blood is 0,2 0/00 and in Great Britain is 0,8 0/00 while my source says that over 0,3 0/00 of alcohol in blood the concetration skills are lower. So does it mean you can drive in UK being slightly tipsy?!

I heard that also in some US sates you can drive with such amount of alcohol in blood. Oh Mr Tygrys, do you still say that in USA matter of drunk drivers is taken seriously?

I think there are two major differences between the states and here. The first big difference is that the police presence on the roads in the US is much heavier. Feels like a police state, but that's a different story. I think there is more of a worry of getting caught in the US.

Second, if you blow over in Poland, and you're not completely wasted, it can be sorted out immediately. That's second hand information, but I have personal experience with "spot fines".

I think when you mix those two it tends to make it not be too serious over here. Just my opinion, but it isn't that far fetched.

If no one drinks and drives then why do bars have parking lots?

bar in Poland means cheap reataurant with fast food from microwaves.
pub is the word for a place where people drink alcohol.

In Canada we have both. The "pub" is typically just a UK themed bar.

Same here in the US.


Maybe the rare person goes to a bar and doesn't drink. But I'm gonna say that most peeps who go to a bar drink. And if they drove there they then drive home.

This is not to say that every one of them is drunk. The legal limit to drive here is .08 blood alcohol level (BAL). I forget the exact formula but this translate to something like a 170 pound man can have two beers an hour and still be legal to drive.

When the polish neighbours come around to visit, its when you are unconcious, they assume that you have refused to drink anymore, so, they come around at 7.30 the next morning to see if you want to continue!!!!!...Jezu, I love this country!!!!
