Phone callers doing surveys asking what equipment you have in Poland

Are these callers generally genuine or crooks out to phish?

Someone I know in Poland had an unsolicited call.

The survey began with the caller asking "Is that the householder at [the correct address]?" then "What radio stations do you listen to and when?" and continued on to "What electronic equipment do you have in your home?"

Maybe I'm nasty and rotten, but I'd refuse to answer any questions after the radio station question. But, the person I know gave details of their laptop, etc etc.

Is this survey phone call a known scam in Poland or currently a real thing? The person didn't note the incoming call number so I can't check it for them.

There was one going one for a few years back at home where people with Indian-sub continent sounding voices would say they were from Microsoft and would tell you that you're computer was infected. Then they'd ask for some codes/computer language mumbo-jumbo and access your PC from their location.

You know how the rest goes.

Same was with a Slovakian/Slovenian tele-scam.
Ireland intl number is +353, one of the above countries is very similar. So the person sees a missed call from +355, automatically thinks it's +353 and calls it back, unaware that it's a permium 10Euro a minute line.

Telemarketers stopped calling me a long time ago, everytime they'd call I'd only speak in English and they got so sick or me not speaking Polish to them they've stopped :)

Yeah, as soon as I realize that it's any kind of survey/telemarketer I hang up, sometimes I swear and hang up. I don't even engage them--they are not worth human decency. Unless they are from a company that you do business with and could possibly have some upgrade or whatever that you may be interested in, I wouldn't even waste my time.

Thanks for posting your replies. Unlikely to be a scam, then, or still possibly a scam?

Hang up ?
Never ....
I put my phone down, quietly, and busy myself with something else.
Messes with their call stats, I would hope ...

Hope so!

Seriously, you have to be careful. I used to work for BT mobile phones donkey's years ago (when carphones were for the very rich and had to be connected via an operator) and a guy use to phone our office. If a lady answered, he used to say he was a gynaecologist doing a survey and asked questions. Apparently you could hear the station announcer in the background.
