Why in Poland most people use cloth sponge to wipe off windscreen?

I noticed very often that lots of people dont use defrost feature which every car has,but use cloth sponge or a substitute to wipe off the windscreen.Rither they dont kow about that feature or there is anyother reason to do so?

Because Poland is the land of stupid laws and it's illegal to start your car and not to be in it or driving it.

Don`t be silly. It is not stupid. Think again twice or thrice and come back with an explanation why there is such a law. Not only in Poland but Germany and other civilised countries too.

If you start your car up and leave it isnt it then your tough luck if someone jumps in and drives it off?
If you are hinting it is somehow *dangerous* as the car may get a life of its own and drive off on its own then that says more for the crap cars still presumably on Polish roads.

Not once have I heard of a car driving off on its own in the UK,yes,every winter you hear a story of some car thief jumping in and driving off ( I always picture the Surf speak jailbird from the Simpsons, So long,suckers.. ) but thats always down to the plain stupidity of leaving your car running in some high crime area or the owner *just popped in their house for 20 minutes*....

Also, insurers tend to protest if your car is stolen with the keys in the ignition while you are not in the driving seat.

Of course, in the UK people get carjacked now sometimes - at traffic lights or other stopping points, criminals try to get into cars and wrestle the driver out. They also like to hook car keys out through the letterbox flap in the front door of many British houses with a long stick or rod (notice I didn't say with a long pole!)

It's a regular problem, started about 10 years ago, happens regularly. My friend keeps his car keys on a shelf near the front door, despite the fact his neighbour lost their Merc in exactly the same manner. And by the way, the insurance premiums in that area all went up after the thief with the stick struck.

Hey, it seems nobody is able to explain why the law forbids running your parked car. ???

Probably in case the handbrake or other brake slips and the car rolls forward, or a child or unlicensed driver or thief tries to jump in and drive off, and because of the pollution build up.

Yes, that`s the main reason - pollution and noise which disturbs other residents in the vicinity. 15 years ago I kept my parked car running in the street 3 meters from certain lady`s window and she looked out and shouted at me. And she was right, but I was young and stupid so I shouted back. Today I regret it.

I forgot whats the exact name its called.I think because of pollution in states.Some convenience stores as some people tend to leave cars running to go get a quick bite or some sit in the parking lot reading,sipping coffee smoking or scratching lottery tickets in a running car.(running I mean is a started car).just came in mind its called idling! there are signs everywhere "NO IDLING"
