Hello there,
I was wondering if there are any online phone directories where i could look for a friend of mine currently located in Poland. Do you have anything to suggest or if i could maybe order a phone book from Poland? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone at least know if i can order a phonebook from Poland? Is it different for each city? I am interested in Wroclaw if it matters at all.

Even though there are phone books in Poland if you go there, they apparently don't like to have this information online. One website that specializes in world phone books says: "The Polish privacy laws make it illegal to publish private information. So the white pages are subject to many restrictions. After forty years of abuses under the communist system, the Polish people are very protective of their privacy. They do not want any private information revealed to anyone, even in Polish white pages telephone books, without their written permission. Gathering of any data that can be used to identify an individual is subject to some very restrictive laws. And the people of Poland enthusiastically support the laws. They are very quick to complain if their private information is given out."

That said, there is only one version of Polish white pages I have found and it has become more restrictive than it used to be a few years ago. You have to know already the person's name, city and street they live on in order to use it. This is it: ksiazka-telefoniczna.com.

That's interesting. At my first apartment in Wro that I shared with another guy, one time he was in the shower and the mailman came with a package for him. I told the mailman that my roommate was in the shower and I'd sign for it, but he wasn't having any of it. He made me get my roomie out of the shower before he'd ever let go of the package, which at the time seemed a bit overboard, but now kinda makes sense. Huh.

Write to them and ask them. Or ask a common friend to give them your phone number and tell them to call you back.

There are no phone books or websites where you can look up phone numbers because of Poland's very strict privacy laws. Poles can get very upset if you get their phone number from anyone else but them, even a common friend. It's very poor etiquette to give out someone's phone number or email address without their permission.
