I know that there will be a long weekend from the 2nd of Nov on Friday, but howw about Thursday, will it be work and school?
Is the 1st of November a work-free holiday in Poland?

You've got that the wrong way round: 1 November is a day off work, 2 November is not.

1st is an official holiday, 2nd will be treated as an unofficial holiday. Which means, sadly, yet another long weekend of carnage on the roads and endless blithering idiots stopped for drink-driving outside graveyards.
(for me, thankfully, 2nd will be certainly a free day - and I'm staying at home well away from roads)

Another lost day. Most people will make a long weekend of it, meaning I will lose lucrative work. Poland's public holidays cost me a bundle!

Not just you, but the whole country loses out. It means that Poland is effectively closed for business from Wednesday afternoon till Monday - a ridiculous length of time!

2 Nov is off school in my school. :):):)

Guys, guys, come on, come on!
Thanks for the answers anyway :))
1st November is a very emotional day here in Poland. It is a public holiday. But as Delph was writing - there is the usual carnage on the road...A lot of nutcases want to be included in the the next 01-11....
We are not not always in Warsaw that day (going to the in-laws) but the years we are, we are always lying down flowers and lighting a candle on the monument for Maczek's boys at Plac Inwalidów. For me always an emotional moment.
Delph, I see nothing wrong in a long weekend...Good that we have them.

Indeed, I suspect that the aversion to holidays that some express above is the unfortunate result of Protestant brain washing. After all it was anger at the number of holy days, that they had to give their laborers off, that prompted the burghers to revolt against the Church 500 years ago.

The road thing is disturbing. The dead bury their dead.
I would prefer if they would crash their cars on a concrete barrier by themselves. This would relieve the country of a load of pathological egoists who the country would not miss. But unfortunately it always involves a lot of innocents :(

Depends really - this one in particular just seems to attract carnage, though at least it means that it's more spread out and the nutters won't be rushing back to work for the 2nd.

I just don't understand it. Why would anyone want to drive like a lunatic during this time? As for the drinking and driving - there is nothing to say except that these people are really braindead morons. It's even worse when you see people caught with their families in the car - why?!
It's absolutely indefensible - and anyone who lets their relative take the wheel after drinking is equally responsible. I'm forever shocked at the amount of women who condone drinking and driving.
