As a foreigner living in Poland I have long wondered why so many gatherings of men in the 'picnic areas' in forests? in my home country there would be guys and girls......but here it is just men always just the men??? never any women?? do men here have an aversion to girls at picnics? While I am here I would like to also ask, why are there always, most days morning until evening, gatherings of men behind the local Straz and behind the local village shops??? in my home country (and so many others I have visited) you just don,t have guys hanging around the local firestation or around the back of the locals shops.....I think the Police would move them on. Is this peculiar behaviour just something I am missing? perhaps these men are proud war veterans? or members of the local chamber of commerce perhaps who meet together because of their sense of cameraderie or to discuss important things? many of them do seem too young for that, but maybe someone can enlighten me, especially about the meetings of guys in the forest?? a secret society perhaps that exclude women (like some golf glubs used to)!.....I am intrigued? I know I would take a girlfriend with me, I wonder why they do not??
Are you sure you're driving around Poland, and not the Forest Moon of Endor? Because the Ewoks that live there all look like they're male, and they certainly all live in the forest.

That's a Polish thing, in the summertime it's a fire with guys standing around with beer and laughing. In the winter it's a kulig with horses pulling sleighs to an area where a fire is started to stand around, drink vodka and laugh about stuff. It's more or less like a guys night out, to get away from their women for a while.

Are you kidding us ? They most probably drink, complain on their wives and do other shyt and they hide, so their women can't find them and hit with some large kitchen item over their heads.
Edit: in your country men probably go to a pub to do that, here they have open air pub as it's cheaper and it sounds like you live in some backward town were half of the people are jobless.
Well yes I do live in the Podkarpacie and although a poor area it is very beautiful (if only the people would not dump their rubbish at the roadside and in the forests??) The people are very friendly and welcoming to foreigners although they do not seem to trust any Poles outside their immediate family and believe everyone else is out to cheat them. Children here do not have 'sleepovers' or other children at their houses (except cousins and immediate family) Birthday parties may include an old grandma but exclude a childs best friend from school because they are not 'family'. When I asked why this was...? a man looked at me strangely and said "we do not have other peoples children in our house because they will steal from us"!!!! Families keep very much together (perhaps too much so in the long term, if you follow my meaning?) Another strange thing that I have noted here is the fact that a group of men gathered together will squat down in a circle, like Afghan peasants??? why is this? even young men do it? There are never any girls in these squatting groups and girls/women do not do it. It reminds me of the way men act in Asia and North Africa. Perhaps I need to study the History of this part of Poland in more depth. I think I expected it to be a bit like Germany, my wife is from Silesia and tells me that these people are nothing like Silesians in their culture.....before I came to Poland to live, a Polish guy I worked with asked me where I was going to live and when I said 'Podkarpacie' he laughed and said that is not Poland!! it was just added on at some time in our history, he was from one of the big cities. Is there some strange Asian sub-culture here? is it known among other Poles that these people are different.......do men squat together in a circle in Gdansk??? or is it just here?

Your misinterpretation of situations you come across in Poland is just shocking. I wonder is it because you look for a proof to justify your inner superiority and condescension against Poles.
1. Birthsdays in Poland are not celebrated the same way as in Britain. They are family celebrations unlike names days which are social events, which includes and focus on friends and collegues.
2. The men you see squating are most likely to be homeless or semi homeless alcoholics. Their wives already kicked them off homes, they can't afford alcohol in bars or they have unpaid credits there. It's sad and speak volumes when you take winos and social margin for average citizens. Also I have no idea why do you find them strange as I know you have similar people among your own countrymen.
3. You precisely know that comparing 3rd world countries to Poland will be found as offensive. I presume you deliberately try to stir up on the forum. May I ask a moderator to check if user Dreadnought is not by any chance one of the former forum trolls or user named APF?

Hello! Podkarpacie is an ancient mix of various ethnical groups and I mean very old. They are different because they do not like to leave their region and since there is hardly any modern industry center there is no real mixing of population any more.
I think you may be jumping to conclusions here. Poland has a communist mentality and this is apparent in the people who come to London. They whisper, distance themselves and have a deep mistrust of others around them who they do not know. These men act exactly as I expect Polish people to act.

You have come across the International Illuminati. They intentionally dress poorly and meet in these designated areas to implement their 'one world' agenda. These billionaires do not allow women because they believe that women do not have souls.
As usual there are those of you who are rightly embarrassed and those of you who have tried to explain. I had hoped that you could explain the social reasons for these gatherings of guys in the forest? Of course I realise that they are not gay (or not likely to be). I had also hoped that someone could come up with a sensible explanation about the guys squatting in circles and not all of them are drunk or drinking...just conversing, (you will note that I also told you that young male children/teens do it.....not girls... just boys...thats what makes it so peculiar looking to me...it is a purely male province just as it is in Asian countries) so it must be something that they saw father and grandfather do and must therefore think that way is correct. Sure, they pass it through generations, when a male kid living in Podkarpacie starts growing up, his grandpa takes him to the forest... here comes this very special moment... he squat down... tells the kid to do the same, then a proud kid knows that he's already a man, he may invite his friends to the forest or behind the store, they can gather there together and squat down in a circle, it's a cultural thing really, straight from central Asia really, because these people are really Mongols under cover, getting ready for the second coming of Genghis Khan. not entirely true, asian women in countries like Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines certainly squat when resting and working (peeling, washing, etc)

We all think of Poland as a Western country, but the actions of these guys show that there is some Asian influence, perhaps passed down through the ages....I hoped that one of you would have been versed enough in history to give an explanation?

Wow! That was a nice welcome! Must have touched something. If so, I am sorry. But I know Podkarpacie and Beskidy. I actually went there many times and stayed there for a few weeks at a time. And yes, people there act different in public than in other regions, say in Wielkopolska or Pomorze for that matter. And for my knowledge of the region itself well it is not Śląsk, Kraków, Mazowsze, and many other ones that attract lots of migrants but a place that suffered a lot alone during WWI, situated at a natural barrier on one side can pretty much be different than the rest and usually it is.
