Kissing on the cheek in Poland. Lips for lovers only?

I have more than once heard Pol-Ams returning from their 1st trip to Poland say that when they tried to kiss a relative (gender unimportant) on the lips he/she would turn his/her head so it landed on the cheek, then he/she would kiss the other cheek. That confuses some visitors. Is it true that kisses on the lips are reserved solely for lovers in Poland?

Most Americans do that funny hug-thing. And if they kiss, it's maybe once or twice on the cheek. I think most Americans are a bit prudish sometimes, except when they're in Las Vegas!

;)

All breaks loose!

sometimes little children "dają dzióbka" into lips of their parents... but thats the only exeption. Kiss into lips is an erotical kiss.

I never heard that americans kisses in lips.
I also remind you that in Poland we kisses one for greet/goodbye friends and 3 when make wishes etc. (sometimes also when greeting relatives but its kind of oldfashioned manner) into cheek. Oh, and we kisses only: female-female, male-female... never male-male.

In the original statement: "...When Pol-Ams tried to kiss a relative (gender unimportant) on the lips he/she would turn his/her head so it landed on the cheek...", by "gender unimportant" I meant regardless of whetehr the Pole was a male or female they would turn a cheek. However, I failed to make it clear I was referring to a Pol-Am female having the tendency to ksis everybody on the lips, as American males (unelss they are homosexuals) normally do not kiss other males, even distant relatives, in that manner. Sorry for the confusion!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheek_kissing

apply regional variations but in Poland - generally - adults don't kiss on the lips.

The PolAm you refer to Polonius, is the weird one obviously

my father's family kisses on the lips in greeting. My father knows better, but still, many awkward moments. I wish I knew where this sh!t came from.

Not really. Some Americans are very open about their romantic feelings:

Not really. Some Americans are very open about their romantic feelings:

he was just kissing up to the saudis or thanking them for sending the hijackers on 9/11.. it sure gave bush another term and actually gave him something that he may be remembered for..
