Health system in Poland - NFZ costs EU?

If you want to have access to a doctor in the public health system the requires national insurance can you just buy NFZ like you can a private plan? Does anyone know the cost per month for a non EU member? I am not talking about ZUS as I understand it but just national health insurance. I know normally you can pay cash as well I just want to know what the costs are for national insurance without ZUS and pension stuff.

I meant in the public health system THAT requires NFZ. Some clinics are getting more restrictive and only taking NFZ covered people it seems. Just checking how much this costs per month for non EU...sorry for the typo and any confusion.

Merged: NFZ insurance cover for Non-EU foreigners and costs

Hi all,

I am coming to study in Poland for 2 years beginning in October and my university has the option of signing up for the voluntary NFZ insurance. I don't know much except that I'm required to pay a monthly contribution of about 50 zl.

After going through the website of the NFZ using google translate (as it's entirely in Polish), I understood that I have to pay a much higher amount.

My question is, how much exactly do I need to pay?

Is it a one-time payment for my whole period of stay in the country or is it in the form of monthly installments of about 50 zl like I was previously informed by my university??

Also, I saw that NFZ insurance includes dental care, but does the NFZ have deals/partnerships with good dental clinics?

I heard some of the private clinics are really good in this country especially that some people even fly from other EU countries to get treatment here, so can I expect to deal with any of these good clinics while being insured by the NFZ or does the NFZ only deal with public clinics of less quality?

Not sure how these things work here and would very much appreciate some advice so as to know whether I should see my dentist before I travel or not as I don't have much time before coming here.

Thanks for any advice!

There are special arrangements for students - you should follow the guidelines from your university.

Yes, some very good dentists are registered with NFZ though my dentist tells me that NFZ funded treatment carries some restrictions, like using mercury amalgam rather than white fillings.

I heard some of the private clinics are really good in this country especially that some people even fly from other EU countries to get treatment here

No. People from other European countries go for treatment in Poland because it is much cheaper than in their own countries. The quality of medical care in Poland is the same or often worse.

so can I expect to deal with any of these good clinics while being insured by the NFZ

Most large and medium size hospitals are registered with the NFZ, private clinics not so much. Worth mentioning that many people in Poland choose to have private health insurance - this is not expensive.

would very much appreciate some advice so as to know whether I should see my dentist before I travel or not as I don't have much time before coming here.

It's usually a good idea. You don't say which your home country is, however it may be cheaper and at least your own dentist is familiar to you.

Jon357,

Thanks for your quick feedback. I found it useful and informative.

I just forgot to ask a few other things:

Does anyone know any good dentists or dental clinics in Katowice since I'll be living there?

Does the NFZ insurance cover everything for dental work or will I still pay a portion of my treatment? If yes, how much??

I think I might need to replace a crown or two. What shall I expect in terms of money and procedure??

Thanks for anyone's help.

NFZ covers 100% of all basic treatments. But there is not much of what they consider basic. Here is the list:
stomatologiainfo.eu/stomatologia-na/

I think I might need to replace a crown or two. What shall I expect in terms of money and procedure??

I think they don't cover that. Here you can see prices of some random dentist:

Monitor,

Thanks for the info. You are right, it doesn't seem very much.

Are there any dental insurance plans that I can buy and use for private dental clinics?

Yes, for example here:
interpolska.pl/plain_site/Menu2/Ubezpieczenia-Zdrowotne/Dla-Ciebie/INTER-Vision-karta-na-zdrowie/Wiecej-o-produkcie/Zakres-ubezpieczenia

They don't show prices instantly, because it depends on how big coverage you need. But dental insurances are not very popular in Poland, as prices are 2nd lowest in the EU (after Hungary and maybe Romania and Bulgaria)

here is list of companies providing insurances:

I don't seem to understand a lot. Can you please suggest any dental insurance providers in Katowice?

This website seems confusing and google translate is not working very well.

Thanks for your help!

I suggest you pay cash :)

Same here. It isn't expensive unless you want fancy stuff doing and I'm sure one of your fellow students will be able to recommend a reasonably priced dentist. You might even think about the dental school at the University there :-)

I would definitely pay cash if it's cheaper than the dental insurance. That's why I was wondering how much is the dental insurance anyway for a foreign student like me?

Note that I currently have 3 crowns that I might need to change, in addition to any other treatments that the dentist will recommend.

root canals are around 200/400 depending on tooth

Merged: NFZ cost for foreign students in Poland

46,80 zł every month.

To use medical care in NFZ facilities you should sign a contract with the NFZ - National Health Fund (the so-called voluntary health insurance). After signing the contract every month you will have to pay a fee of 46,80 zł. If you become ill or need to go to the doctor for a consultation, you can go for visit to a medical practitioner at no extra charge. A student who signs the agreement and pays contributions in a timely manner can benefit from health care in Polish clinics that have signed a contract with the NFZ
