I still remember "the artist" Rafał Betlejewski vandalising walls with his slogan "Jew, I miss you". Later on, he concluded in an interview in Gazeta Wyborcza that Polish police is antisemitic cause they detained him for vandalism.

I guess we should have sent him to Western European cities with an art project / sabotage mission. He would spray pro-Jewish slogans on their walls and if they complained, that would be a solid proof that they are vicious antisemites.

You seem obsessed with NSZ. These soldiers were exactly like the gen.Maczek's soldiers that liberated the villages in Belgium where your parents lived during the war. I think the word national scares you. Why is that? I remember when a national holiday, Independence Day, freaked you out and you ran home to start a thread about how some nationalists were mean to anarchists. Of course, you didn't bother to see the commemorations, you went to see a handful of opposite extremes, all you saw was nazis and marxists. Ooooohhhh. Well, walking past (and occasionally into) galleries in Warsaw & Poznan my take on it is:

1) the big names are dead (Nowosielski, Beksinski leap to mind);
2) what remains is a wilderness of morose, lugubrious post-abstract-expressionism, with the dull, mothballed stink of art school hanging perpetually over it - that obsession with displaying your influences/reading without actually bringing a fresh perspective to the table being, of course, foremost in the dauber's intentions;

3) What's really happening on the Polish art scene is ephemeral and politicised. No, that's a good thing. Mleczko's cartoons, for example - pinpoint parodies, but unless you're Polish or living here you won't get it - these things don't translate well and so are a bit lost in an international environment.

Real Poles and real artists please correct me on some or all of the above - but remember I'm one of the more Polonophilic obcole on this forum, so please take it in the constructive spirit intended.

There's some very interesting art from the 1970's in the National Museum in Wroclaw - it seems that this period actually produced some interesting stuff. I don't know much about it, but it's intriguing.

Have you seen the second floor in the new national gallery in Poznan? Same sort of thing, post-Francis-Bacon. But that was the 1970s, so much of the non-figurative art you see in galleries these days is either a footnote to that or commercial tosh for bank foyers.

The most impressive Polish Work of art is of course the Crazy Horse Monument by Korczak Ziółkowski.

This is possibley the most impressive work of art of all time.

Sadly yes, compared to the level of attention they should receive.

Who chooses to live and work in Poland. If somebody chooses to live and work in Poland, I say that they should be allowed to represent Poland. And I'm surprised that you disagree: you were allowed to join the US armed forces and represent the USA overseas despite coming from Poland, so you should support the right to represent a country which one does not come from.

By the way, have you seen the sculpture exhibition that's on at the moment in the gardens of the Novotel Okęcie? There are some really good pieces and it is worth a visit - there are works by a lot of the post-war big names plus a few pieces from younger sculptors.
