How much does it cost to live in Poland?

Im 19 and am thinking about living in Poland next summer. I was just wondering how much does it cost to live in Poland. How much is an apartment and food. Would it be better to try and live with some family friends?

When it comes about the price of the flat, it depends from the place (big, small city, village), , hence maybe the difference between costs given by olsztyn and pawian

In the city one room flat (kawalerka) will cost you 1000-...zł + media (electricity etc.)
2 room flat: 1200-1400zł + bills

you can have a look at the prices at the gumtree :warszawa.gumtree (choose, which region you are interested in (Mazowieckie/Warszawa - zmień (change) ) and then go to nieruchomości - dom/mieszkanie do wynajęcia (real estates - house/flat for rent)

The prices of food. clothes will be similar in all regions.

It depends what your life style is. If you cook at home, you can save some money. If you decide to eat out, the price of the dinner is around 15-25zł (it differs what you order, though :) ) But I think, that daily price for food will be around 25-40zł (750-1200zł per month)

I think, that if you have 3000-4000zł/month you can live on a good life evel.

In Wroclaw, 1200PLN plus bills and apartment block service or monthly charges is the minimum really. Most of them are 1500PLN plus those other costs.

Bread - Tesco do some special deals of around 1PLN for a white loaf. However, that is just a promotional thing and more generally a decent loaf of bread will cost nearer to 3PLN to 4PLN or above. Very ordinary white bread 2PLN to 2.50PLN, yes, not too difficult to find at that price.

Milk - plastic bag refills of milk are 1.80PLN to 2PLN, but more generally milk is around the 2.5 to 3PLN mark. The better filtered milk 3.5PLN for a litre.

A kilo of peaches is 5PLN to 8PLN. For large ones, I paid 7.50PLN per kilo in the market yesterday. Produce is cheapest in season of course. Apples are around 4 to 5PLN a kilo right now. In the next month or so they will probably be 3PLN a kilo.

Clothes, electricals, cars, medicines - not so cheap. Fuel and utilities ditto. I think these are the same price or higher than the UK.

You can as well try to share the flat, renting a room in students flat, it will reduce the costs of renting. I don't know Karków well, but still when it comes to the prices of clothes, food, services I think they are the same as the other cities.

Guys, consider that she's 19 and won't have 3000-4000zl a month to play around with.

She'll be sharing a flat - so more realistic is 400-500PLN.

Indeed. The price of cherries right now is just flabbergasting - I saw exactly the same thing in Germany for 5 euro/kilo!

In Kaufland, Biedronka and probably Lidl, 2% fat is probably about 2ZL or 1.99zl. Elsewhere, nearer to 2.50zl for a litre. Typical local supermarket, definitely north of 2zl for a bottle of 3.2% milk, probably 2.30zl to 2.50zl at the majority of places.

my kids drink 2% and I have it in my morning coffee. I bought a litre today for 2.79

I might get hunted down and shot by the dairy people, but I would have thought that you have to add more to your tea or coffee if the fat content is lower, so you end up using more of the milk to get the same whitening effect, and get through the milk quicker. I would think the 2% is only of use for making milkshakes or hot chocolate etc. I could be wrong of course, but that's how it seems to me.

Diet coke - yeah why not, cutting out fat for diets sure, 2% milk - thats just ridiculous. For the amount of fat that youre saving the body and the difference proper diet can make its just madness IMO.

really, that was a massive seller for them. It is simlar in the UK, green top 2% milk gets twice as much space as the blue tops. Its funny watching all the fat people grabbing their green topped milk thinking ohh yeah thats right - im healthy.

When I was in Poland a few weeks ago, I spent about 50 PLN on food and drink, and that was for five days. So, about £2.00 GBP a day. Bought everything at Carrefour.

If I had managed to stay at the apartment I had planned to (long story) and didn't have to stay in a hotel at short notice, I would have spent even less, as I would have done some cooking.

I know prob a funny question but does Polish 2% milk taste the same as U.S 2% milk??

In one litre, 1.2% fat is 12grams, about 25% of the recommended daily fat intake and 50% of the saturated fat intake.

Probably not. I remeber thinking American milk tastes funny. So you may think the same with Polish Milk, there is a lot that can affect the taste.

Who drinks a litre of milk in a day, or even half a litre? the most milk i usually have is with cornflakes and i dont eat them very often anyway. For me its the same category for people who dont take sugar in tea but then go and order a cheeseburger.


I dont believe that, can anybody else clarify? Thats like a bread shop that stopped selling doughnuts.

I confirm the branches I know of now only have a small section of milk and it's just the 2% (which I presume is semi-skimmed) in plastic bottles with orange or yellow caps. There is not any other fresh milk for sale in the branches when last I checked. I also give their natural set yogurt a miss.

I'm thinking UHT the cartoned product, thats what i always bought, not neccesairly form Biedronka though. £aciate was the best i think.
