New car prices alone don't tell the whole story becuase the cost of spare parts and servicing must laso be considered. In your view which make offers the most reasonably priced spares in Poland? I have heard that Fords are reasonably priced in their class but spare parts are horrendously pricey. Is that true?
Cheapest car spares in Poland?
It all depends. BMW, for example, seem to fix their prices across Europe so buying specific parts from a dealership in Poland is comparable to buying them in Germany or the UK - you only benefit from the exchange rate at the time.
However, if you know nothing about your car then you will have to pay a mechanic to do all of the work, so any parts come with a labour cost attached. While labour is fairly cheap in Poland, garages will try to work out how much you are prepared to pay and charge accordingly, regardless of the price of labour or parts.
My recent example was with Nissan. They offered to change my brakes (discs and pads) either for "Genuine Nissan" at 1500zl, or aftermarket parts (Bosch) for 1200zl. But Nissan don't make their own brakes; they buy from a third-party like every other manufacturer, and in this case that company is TRW. I bought all the required parts, brand new in sealed boxes from a genuine TRW supplier for 600zl, which is comparable with UK prices.

I don't have much experience with those, although I wouldn't say Renault and Citroen are "popular" makes in Poland.

If you want a broad stroke sweeping generalisation (which is what your threads always ask for), it's that Poles don't buy into the idea of Full Service History and dealer-only maintenance. They feel (and correctly so, in my opinion) that it's a waste of money because the company will find a way to screw you over eventually, so you might as well take it to a recommended third-party mechanic and pay less.

Maybe the capital isn't a good vantage point, but I see an afwul lot of Renaults and Citroens in Warsaw. Probably they are rarer in the provinces.
Spares for Japanese cars are always expensive. I am driving Nissan since 26 years so I can testify to that :)

Except Richfilth lives in Warsaw and knows a thing or two about the Polish car market.
In Bielany I can see plenty of Renaults and Citroens parked all over, of course lots of Yarises, Skodas, VWs, Fiats and KIAs as well. Admittedly, the Frenchies are less common in Legionowo. BTW is it true that the avergae car on the road in Poland is 14 years old? Hard to believe but I read it somewhere.

We love Mercedes, Audi, VW, Skoda ;) and buy only well known brand aftermarket parts SKF, Valeo, TRW, ATE, Ruville, Sachs, Lemforder, Delphi etc
BTW is it true that the avergae car on the road in Poland is 14 years old?

I would agree with you there having always had a VW ,but the Lemforder suspension arms are cheaper that the genuine ones and they are poop as I used them once and only lasted 18months before the dreaded squeak and clunk came back to haunt me.Do VW in Poland have a TPS?
Odd; Lemforder are the OEM manufacturer for a lot of BMW stuff including control arms, and I've not had any problems with them. What I HAVE experienced once was a Polish product sold in a FEBI box, so it's worth checking that the part is "as sold" if you're buying from an Allegro.pl seller (never again!). There's also the fact that Polish roads destroy suspension a lot quicker too.
In terms of parts, InterCars seem to have the monopoly on parts supplies unless you specifically need something from your manufacturer.

Not so much that they have a monopoly as they stock by far and away the biggest number of parts of any company in Poland and can get those parts to any InterCars branch the next day. Only one of the IC shops is actually owned by InterCars.
To be honest, I do not have the energy to shop around for spares. My Pan Andrzej is servicing by car since years and I am satisfied with that. I am sure his bills are more expensive then if would search the www for parts. But he is reasonably honest, stocks my tires in the right season...
And yes I am sure I pay let's say 30 PLN more for maintenance compared to when I would buy all filters, oil etc. myself. But I do maintenance twice per year, so....

I need a w124 saloon painting and the interior changing. Any idea what the cost would be? It's a 1991 model and changing cloth to leather, I have the newer w124 interior going in to it.

You'll spend more money painting and on upholstery than the car is worth. Better to just buy one that's in nice shape especially a TD as you'll get a ton of use out of it with minimal maintenance.
