Car insurance in Poland: where's the best place to get it?

My car insurance policy expires on the 14th of next month, so I'd like to get some views on where to get the next policy.

I currently pay AXA direct 372.27zł for OC + Green card + basic Assistance and 361.99 zl for AC.

Admittedly, that sounds like not a lot but I'm not sure I'm getting a good deal. My driving licence has never had even a single point on it and I have had one accident (which resulted in a claim) in the last 20+ years. That accident was nine years ago and very minor, no damage at all to my car. I only drive about 5,000km per year, living in the centre of Warsaw means I can walk to work in the morning in less time than it would take to drive and parking now is such a pain I generally take trams or taxis when going round the city. I've got a dash cam but to be honest I don't often put it up, city trips are too short for the fuss and on cross-country trips I need the lighter-socket power-point for the sat nav unit.

How much do you pay? Does anybody know of any companies which specialise in lower risk drivers? Does anybody know of any companies which give discounts to people who have dash cams or black-box? Does anybody know of any companies which offer agreed maximum mileage policies?

Sounds like a pretty unbeatable deal to me. I pay exactly 300 PLN for OC with Vienna Group, but that's the basic, no-frills policy, and I have 60% no claims bonus. Are there any insurers who give credit for having no points? I don't suppose there are. How would they know? It would also be interesting to know the highest rates for car insurance in Poland (just to feel smug).

That's a pretty decent sum. I've also got a 60% no claims bonus. I'd like to insure my no claims bonus but apparently Polish insurance companies don't do that.

Don't insurers here jack up the cost of insurance for having points?

Sounds like a pretty unbeatable deal to me.

Last night I got my renewal proposal: OC + greencard + basic assistance = 218.49zl. AC (with replacement using original parts, with theft coverage, 500zl excess and 15% own contribution to repair cost) = 341.15zl. Plus upgrage to Midi assistance (which I almost certainly will use) for 47.79zl and tyres/wheels for 15.39zl. This is with the 60% discount for no claims. An additional 17% discount from AXA Direct and another 5% discount for continuing insurance with them. Not a bad deal really.

Now all I need to decide is whether I want the 150,000zl of injury coverage (for myself) they are offering me for 55.89zl. My initial thought is that I don't want it and don't drive enough to make it a good deal. My second thought is that it's only the price of a few pints and if I do have an accident and damage myself, I'll be gutted to have chosen a few pints over 150,000zl.

This site is good for offering comparisons between different insurance companies: rankomat.pl

I'll have to check that out next year. Presumably, I'll lose a bit of NCB if I change insurers, but it still sounds a great deal.

As far as I know, you don't. I didn't when I changed from Allianz to AXA Direct.
It is a pretty good deal, the OC bit is under £40!

Just thought I'd drop in to give an update. Today I bought insurance for an X-Type Jag of a certain age I just treated myself to. Impressed with Harry's experience with Axa, I went to my agent. She put in my details, but AXA wanted 800-odd PLN for OC (including 150PLN glass insurance). Here's why:

Last year an old bag t-boned me as I overtook her. My insurers (Interisk) refused to pay her claim against my policy and she took them to court, where, in the face of expert opinion to the effect that her version of events was physically impossible, the judge found in her favour. The next time I paid my premium I still had my 60% NCB, so I thought all was well. Today it transpired that AXA's program saw what had happened in court and lopped 30% off my NCB. So, I stayed with Interisk, kept my 60% NCB, and paid 491PLN for OC, including 120PLN for glass insurance, so 371PLN for the basic deal. The lesson is that regardless of the rights or wrongs, if a court finds against you or your insurer, you will lose if you change firms.

@Roger5; The other lesson is that courts may very well rule in defiance of all reason and logic. Happy to hear you got your insurance sorted. I am with Liberty Direct, no reason why, just found their number and called. Never made a claim with them so have no idea how is their service.

Bwahaha. No :D They don't even ask!

I'd like to insure my no claims bonus but apparently Polish insurance companies don't do that.

They definitely do. The wife and I both had idiotic accidents in the last 5 years and the 60% bonus was protected in both cases. That's with PZU, though. Before anyone says anything, PZU are consistently the cheapest around for some odd reason, and their European breakdown cover is very reasonably priced.

Guys, need opinions about this.

I have used 3 companies for ac+oc until now all had terrible customer service. They call you hundred times while trying to sell it, after payment you are alone.

I am not sure if it is allowed to give namea of the companies so I will try to truncate :) I used ax. Av... Pz. Until now for my and wife's cars and no happiness.

I ve got one 6 year old and one 9 year old cars which I LL need to insure again next month but could not decide which company. I also googled the companies and most of them have very bad comments in general.

Even found out that some of them never informed national insurance system about the policies we had therefore, it looks like we have less discounts than what we expected. Calling them one by one now to force them to put details into UFG system.

I need to get some info to see if someone is pleased with their insurer

A couple of points which need to be raised here.

1.If you would like to change insurance company in Poland it must be done over 1 month before the end of expiration.
2. Insurance is always a percentage of the value of the car.
3.The car is insured not the owner.

I believe Warata is best, but they are all much the same these days.

Disagreeing with first point - did it several times and had no issues.

Agreeing with the other points and not sure if something I said in previous post saying otherwise?

Thanks for the name, I will have a look at them

As a rule people mtend to go for the cheapest OC possible. While with AC, you get what you pay for so best to go with a reputable firm but even them very much dpends on what options you select. AC can be very skinny or very comprehensive. Also don't forget to add GAP if leasing, provides you with a safety net in event of write off/theft.

one 9 year old car

Last chance for AC. Cars over 10 years old can't get it.

They most certainly can. But not from every company admittedly.

My mistake, then. My insurer, Vienna Group, say no. Do insurers who will do it charge a lot more? I pay 620 for OC (with glass).
OP Harry

In my experience they charge less.

I've been told that AC can only be bought for either a new car or one that has a history of having it. If a car has been insured with just OC, the policy can't be upgraded. I don't know if this is right, but the person who told me seemed sure.

Like Harry mentioned some companies may agree to do the ac even if the car is more than 10 years old. As well, let's say that the car is 9 years old and you have a this year, next year they will offer you ac again even if the car passes 10 years.

Looks like this year the prices are significantly higher, I keep searching still as I hate the current company. Will also visit maybe some agencies
