Car Crime in Poland

Dzien Dobry :)

I am a new member, but not new to Poland. I have been there many times. I am thinking of going again in a couple of months and I was wondering what the car crime is like in the Southern parts of Poland, specifically, Krakow, Krosno and Solina areas. I have never experienced car crime there before and I do drive a very expensive car, but Ive heard a few horror stories lately of cars being stolen or broken into.

Has anyone any advice about driving round Poland/parking etc.

Also, on the look out for a stunning Polish woman as a travelling companion on a regular basis ;)

Czesc for now !

Dobry wieczor!

If you drive a very expensive car with foreign reg. plates the risk is higher.

Don't come to Salford if you're scared of car crime, my car insurance almost TRIPLED when I moved here. And I live in a nice area!! lol!

(except it's not really a "loling" matter is it, but I like saying lol. lol)

Besides, don't Poles tend to steal all their cars in Germany? :)

I have been to Poland many times before in my cars, and never experienced any problems. I usually park in secure "security" car parks. I just wondered if GB cars were ever targeted specifically, as I have never witnessed malice towards myself over there. Polish people are usually very friendly and welcoming :)

My car is Czech registered. I've had some parts stolen off of it, but that's it.

I always park in secured parking and if I have to park on the street, I make sure that I pay the local attendant a few sheckles when I return ( not before). About 8 years ago in warsaw I had a guy indicate to me he had a gun and told me to get out of my car, while I was parked and waiting for my wife, I told him to f*ck off and drove off. But I was young and dumb then.

Poland circa 2010 I have not experienced any problems at all and I drive a top end car. In respect of Uk reg, most people just think it is a Pole returning from the UK. A friend of mine was traveling around Poland last year in a nice sports car and the police pulled him over just to have a look at the car and have pictures taken next to it. Wiltshireflyer if you want to consider a car being expensive in Poland today, it has got to be very special because Audi,BMW, Jaguar,Lexus, Merc or Porsche is standard these days. In warsaw even Bentlys are common.

If you do that not much can happen. But I think we are talking about normal parking on a normal street, which also is rather safe in many parts of Poland.

Just get to know the place where you park, and make a short analysis. There are many factors affecting this.

I know where to park and where to avoid parking in my city.

The cost of secured parking in Poland is 4-8 Plz per hour or 30-50 Plz per day. Hotels have there own prices or are free to guests. I recently read an article that Gdansk had become the car jacking capital of Poland. In krakow there is a new underground parking facility on Plac na groblsch next to the Sheraton.

Stealing happens everywhere. My friend had the IL state sticker scraped off her license plates ($99.00). She filed a police report and needs to buy another one. I believe, there is a discount in her situation. They are difficult to remove when there is one or two only sticked on top of each other (they just tear apart) but if there are more (older license plate) it can be done. Times are hard, i guess. Luckily, Chicago city stickers are placed on the inside! I think they are more expensive.

Cars are stolen in Chicago area pretty often, never to be seen again. Auto parts are expensive.
I don't think car stealing in Poland is a big concern next to USA.

Well then, in case it's stolen, I suppose that it's most likely that your car will have the privilege to be driven by some Russian oligarch, then. But fear not as not everything is lost; you still can drive a LAMBORGHINI afterwards, bwahahaha

it won't be so special once you've hit a few holes in the roads. there are still a lot of cobble streets here, and worse.

I second Wroclaws comment. Less worry about theft, more about suspension. Terrible choice of touring car for cee...

I like your style ! :)

;)
But on a more serious note, I'd advise against going to Poland in a car suspended so low. As Wroclaw and convex said, you may hear some very unpleasant thuds in the region of the undercarriage of your car during your journey, which may result in an unwanted visit at a garage (and spoiling of your view of Poland, which we want to avoid:). There are car hire companies in Kraków, which offer not only Chevy Aveos.

Nice car, as others have mentioned the roads in Poland are not quite there yet. You could always drive it to Berlin leave it there and hire a Trabant for Poland. On a serious note 4x4's are the way to go here.

I think maybe I will take the Jag XK then instead. I know some of the roads around the Krakow ring road are quite well rutted, and the urban roads are sometimes bad, but I took the XK last year and where I was seemed reasonable.

I think you're full of it, but an XK would be a much better option.

As a public service I should point out that flying down the M4 in Wiltshire is ill advised.... local rozzers are a little too zealous for my liking.

Leaders in car crime since 1845 ;) ;) ;)

The German guy I met on my Baltic trip had a joke or two about this. About buying back your own car in Poland :) We had to have a laugh.

Feelin the vibe is when you are chillin :) In the groove means it has created a rhythm which is what I wanted to say. Robin Da Hood of your car since 1845 :) :)

You Sir, have got it all twisted! Feeling the vibe is enjoying the atmosphere of a party, appreciating something, where chilling is not doing much. (Pay attention Seanus, it might save your life one day!)

Robin Da Hood of your car since 1845 :) :)

I bet you'll be proper Ghetto by the end of next week then. But you'll have to take a tattoo if you want to impress the Ghetto princess! (I'm afraid you'll have to endure some suffering before you can make it to the top!)

In the groove means it has created a rhythm which is what I wanted to say.

It's probably what my granny used to say when she went to the Disco.
