Are e-books being published in Poland? Are they called e-książki in Polish? Do Poles know what Kindle is?

Yes, yes and yes.

Except the proprietary hardware sold by Empik is probably the best known.

I have no idea, probably they are called e-books.

Those who are into it know, there is no lack of gadgets in Poland.

You live in Poland and have done for many years - why don't you ask them?

Or could it be that you don't actually know anyone to ask?

To be honest, e-books are not my cup of tea. Empik, kindle...whatever... But I see them increasingly on Warsaw public transport. I prefer the real thing :) A paper book :)

But why he, an expert on everything concerning Poland, does not have an idea?

As far as I know e-books exists in Polish but not on Amazon.com.
My dilemma is then, how do I convert them into a Kindle format ?

You need to know the format they're in and convert them to .mobi using software (usually easily downloadable). Or read them as a document on Kindle, if your Kindle model supports that format. The Kindle Fire will let you read pdf.s as a document.

If they're pdf, they won't convert that well (usually). Convert online for free here in about 2 mins.

After having a look at my Kindle, my friend bought one and asked Google for "free mobi eBooks" (something like that) and was able to download a bunch of her favorite authors, such as Agatha Christie. Translated to Polish. (We're in Poland, if that isn't clear.)

I have bought and downloaded eBooks for my Kindle from Amazon.com without any problems.

I never really liked reading in PDF format, it reminded me too much of reading on a laptop which I never enjoyed. I now just use iBooks.

Slightly off topic, with Dances with Dragons on iTunes you could buy the whole, unsplit, version for £3.99 or you could buy the two halves for £6.99 each...who is seriously buying the two parts???
