Polonius3,anyway it's interesting that records weren't really kept through the whole Piast era. Thanks for your input.

boletus,do you think that Mieszko issuing the Dagome Idieux had More to do with protecting his second wife Oda's interests?

oletus,do you think that Mieszko issuing the Dagome Idieux had More to do with protecting his second wife Oda's interests?

Well, that's one interpretation. And as we know, this did not help her much - as Bolesław, son of Doubrava (Dobrawa), sent her packing to Germany, after Mieszko's death, together with her three adolescent sons, his half-brothers. Another interpretation is that Mieszko intended to strengthen the position of the Poland's emerging church hierarchy and to make it fully independent from the German and Bohemian structures.

There are so many unknowns related to "Dagome iudex" and so many interpretations. How accurate was the first summary made from the original document, about 100 years later? There are obvious errors and assumptions made by the copyist, who admitted alongside that he knows nothing "about those people" and assumed that they were Sardinians and ruled by four judges. Why Dagome? How to interprete the word iudex, other than the judge? Why was not Mieszko's real name used while one of Oda's sons was mentioned as Mieszko (Misico)? Why the third son of Oda is not mentioned, even though they were more or less of the similar age? Why Bolesław was not mentioned at all - is it because he was already made fully independent and the overlord of Lesser Poland? What is this mystery place name Schinesghe appearing in the description of Poland's borders? Szczecin? Gniezno?

boletus, how do you think the quality of life was for the average Polish serf as opposed to elsewhere in Europe during this era?

Can someone tell me what the consensus is in Poland for the EU and Germany's urging that European Nations are going to have to cede more of their sovereignty?

During the era there were no serfs.

I don;t think there is consensus in Poland on that. Current gov and its supporters are ready as they come to cede sovereignty and opposition is against them, most of the population are just in coma and do not care one way or the other.

I would say it was pretty similar.#
There could be some diversities in social order, but on average Poland has been more sparsely populated and there were more independent societies.

Ironside, what are your feelings on Poland ceding more or eventually all of it's sovereignty?

I;m as I have been always against Poland entering the EU. So, you can imagine I'm not happy about loosing severity to some eurocrats.

Germany's urging that European Nations are going to have to cede more of their sovereignty

Ceding sovereignty to Brussels is dictated and expected by Wall Street and the IMF - with France acting in the background. Merkel is just the messenger who is shot.

TheOther, true,I was actually more concerned with how Poland feels about the issue, than who brought it up.I wasn't trying to make it an issue of Germany or IMF I already know who is behind the push for Globalization.

Ironside,I can't speak for Poland, but I know I wouldn't want America to give up her sovereignty.I agree with you that the Globalists are a very shady lot imo :)

Poland staying away from the EU and the IMF

The problem is that Poland will not be asked. They are a member of the EU, so they have to play by the rules - whoever makes those rules. I believe there is not a single country on Earth these days which is truly sovereign. Huge investment fonds, the Chinese commies, the Russian mafia, Saudi princes and god knows who else own their economies, and they are the ones who run the show. Not some silly politicians or the citizens.

now your speaking my language

Well ... not really ... ;)
While you might believe in conspiracies, I blame the mess on globalization and investor greed.

p3undone evidently read about Casimir the Great, the last of Poland's Piasts

He wasn't last of Polish Piast but last of that line on the Polish throne. Pity that.
