If a Phone Gets Stolen in Wroclaw

Is there any chance of it turning up in a pawn shop, online, ect?

A friend and I were out last night and she got her purse stolen. She's a software developer and needs her phone for work quite literally. I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd post here to see if anybody had any possible suggestions.

I believe the traditional thing to do is to change the IMEI number and then sell the phone on allegro or to one of those little kiosks that specialise in second-hand phones.

Thanks. I'll start looking around for it. Buying it back isn't the issue so much as getting the phone itself back.

Unless it is a very unusual model, I wouldn't fancy your chances of finding it. And even if it is unusual, the chances are very very slim.

Yeah, it's a long shot, I realise, but have to look. It's a bit rare, but easy to tell if it's the right phone because it's got a unique OS.

Its a bit late now , but its worth remembering for the future...

If you have vital info on your phone , keep a copy of such stuff in another place...

I know what a pain it was having my phone go faulty , and having to run around getting peoples phone numbers again...

I dont think it likely your friend will find her phone again , and if she does they will have wiped all the info from it , and given it all new settings...

Is it an iPhone? Because regardless of where on the globe, Apple allows you to track it via "Where is my iPhone?" through iCloud and other Apple account services. Tell her to call 1-800-MY-APPLE for more info.

Luckily, it's a smart phone, so the contacts are all saved elsewhere. I am not a tech wiz, so I don't understand what software was on the phone, how hard it is to replace, ect.

Not an iPhone though, so unfortunately no tracking.

Android also has the ability to track if you're fortunate enough to install the software prior to losing it. There is also a slim possibility of tracking it by remote-installing an application from the market website, that's of course assuming they have internet on the phone.

I lost my phone around 1.5 - 2 months ago... I believe the most likely explanation was that it fell into a bag or something that went out into the trash and didn't notice it for a few days - I had serious burns on my legs so didn't leave the house, phone wasn't charged and didn't bother with it. It was a HTC legend. By the time we noticed it wasn't in the house it was a bit late, we called up Play and they told us the sim was being used in an LG. We had the IMEI and the sim blocked, made a police report and spent the next two weeks looking on allegro (my phone had a very obvious and identifiable scratch on the front), checking in komis, etc. We never found it and I didn't really care for the phone, I wanted my SD card back which had some photos / videos on there that I cannot replace but never uploaded anywhere - more fool me! I since replaced my phone, I have tracking software installed on it, a mobile data plan that I always leave on, and I'm immensely protective of it now :) We learn our lessons.

I use dropbox for this - everything automatically uploads to there whenever I'm connected to wifi. It's a great solution for backing up data :)
