In Polish tradition some parts of life are treated as strictly private matter. This include any activity that adult people are enjoy in the cosy walls of their bedroom. That is nobody else's business. If you talk about this - the acceptance level is high as it always been.
If you asking if publicly discussed or demonstrated sexuality, love-parades etc are tolerated, then I am affraid the answer is no. Most of Poles don't tolerate this kind of behavior. Please note that the hypothetical hetero-parade would be probably ostracized in exactly the same way.
Someone who would like to discuss his (or hers) heterosexual experience with the strangers, or claim that sleeping with the person of the opposite sex makes them special or claim that this is a social or political problem - would be ridiculed.
One of my associates has got rather annoying habit. He use to introduce himself like: "Hi. My name is Marek. I'm a gay." I think he is a moron. If he would introduce himself like "Hi, My name is Marek. I love to bang a girls". - I would consider him as a moron too.
Long story short. When in Poland - keep your sexuality where it's belong: in private. And whatever hour sexual habits are - You will be tolerated.
Actually, it wasn't until the event of the Bible that homosexuality was looked upon as a deviation. Before that, homosexuality was a generally accepted phenomenae in Greek, Roman or any other ancient society.
You got your chronology mixed up quite a bit here.
I probably be back online again either late tonight or tomorrow morning. So, pls don't take offence and think that I'm not interested in your opinions, I am simply not online :)
We are all hoping Polish immigrants will not kick your ass while you tell them all about Poland and esspecially its history. Do take care, pumpkin.
I thought sodomy was rectal peneration. If not, then what is the correct definiton of it? Incidentally, from a purely medical point of view, rectal intercourse (whether homo or hetero) is anatomically traumatic, as the anus has been designed (by God, Mother Nature, the tooth fairy?) only for excretive (outgoing) movement. Penetrative (ingoing) pressure causes physical damage to the one being sodo... er, um, I mean...being 'made love to'. Any medcical experts on PF who can confirm or deny the above?
I don't like it being more and more political, that's just moronic :) Although I experienced seeing two obviously feminine men with very feminine cloths talking very feminine so I assumed they were gay (as my father). My father of course answered in Norwegian (He is Polish but knows Norwegian and we were in Poland)
"Look at them, their 100% f**s"
He didn't hit them or anything and he didn't comment it into their face so he tolerated them pretty good I say. Unless he would been in an larger group with friends and not his kids, maybe the story would been different idk
I dont mind gays at all. It is everyone private buissness. But I do oppose political correctness in any form, I don't want it to infect Poland, so I consider my patriotic duty to bash fags now and then. But I do not put a real heart into it ;-)

Well said, I second that! Bashing verbally only over here.
In the west if a public person goes public beeing gay, it becomes more and more difficult to oppose him. It can be interpreted as homophobic or an hostile behaviour against gays, so they benefit to a degree from beeing gay. They must take the benefits and the drawbacks.
Coming out may have its benefits in terms of self-assertion, self-prestige and the 'gay pride' they go on about at the parades. But urging a homo to stay closeted can protect his health and prolong his life. A closeted homo usually has far fewer partners (is less promiscuous)and that in itself diminishe the STD risks.
assuming that homosexuals are more prone to STD's is a gross misstatement. It all depends on whether you have safe sex or not. A girl who sleeps unprotected with multiple men over a prolonged period of time has just as much chance of getting a STD as a homosexual man with the same behaviour has. It's just a matter of common sense and most homosexuals use condoms when sleeping with different partners.
Well, there is discussion about that still. I m a blood donor and in the UK (and in many other countries) men who had sex with other men are banned for life from giving their blood. Here is the link to the article

Obviously they must have some arguments to keep the ban even if it is very criticised nowadays.

Any kind of penetrative sex other than penis -> vagina.

So he was more of a ***** than the actual fags themselves?
I only have one friend from Poland who is extremely open about being a gay, but he never talks to me about what it's like being openly gay in Poland. He's extremely confident about his homosexuality, though, so it can't be that bad. I imagine attitudes in Poland are much the same as they are here; people just don't care. This is a general view, though, and there's no telling how an individual family would react if someone in their family turned out to be gay. Probably disappointment, in general.
I suspect the loudest gay-bashers, the self-proclaimed angry, "public" heterosexuals who call homosexuality a perversion, only to feverishly recount to anyone who will listen their curiously intimate knowledge of the physical details of homosexual sex...
An STI is exactly what it says on the tin. An infection that can be passed to another person via intercourse. Sorry, but being gay doesn't increase the chances of having one. We all have sex (I hope:P) therefore we all can risk catching one if we are not careful.
Polonius: "I hear him coming. Let's withdraw, my lord. [Exeunt King and Polonius]. Enter Hamlet.
Act III, Scene 4 THE QUEEN'S CLOSET
Polonius: "My lord, he's going to his mother's closet. Behind the arras I'll convey myself To hear the process...I'll call upon you ere you go to bed And tell you what I know."
Why a gay man cant give blood at all? or actually any man who had sex with other man, even once many years ago...
Because AIDS (or HIV?) can take a long time to be detectable. I'm not sure if it's years, but it's happened before that people who somehow get HIV end up getting married, having children and then the entire family has HIV (or AIDS?). It's apparently a very slippery virus, and the fact that the sex that homosexual males commonly partake in without protection is perfect for spreading the virus is decent justification for not allowing them to give blood. It's cold, yes, but until a better way of detecting the virus is discovered, it's better to be safe than sorry.
What about the poles who are living in the UK? Are they more open about such things because they are living outside Poland?
Just like the Poles living in canada or the us: the gay ones are out and about.
I've met plenty of 'em here in toronto. They're all soo damn nice & down-to-earth! :D
Oh no!!! This is so ignorant! I rarely encounter people that feel that way towards other human beings. It's so sad to see those words...
my parents are (or were) major homophobes, yet they attended the gay pride parade in toronto 2 years back and came back home all excited, exclaiming how fun and colourful it was. bwaha ha ha :D
Homosexual people dont choose to be gay. Its either they are born like that or something happened when they were raised.
Personally I dont have anything against most gays who dont shove it in your face. However I cant stand those flamboyuent gays. It really pisses me off.
As far as gay marriage is concerned they can go to hell (and Im not even religious).
The gay movement and womens movement have gone so far its sad.
Now here in Canada im considered more left wing than right wing but on this topic I favor the right wing folks.
If homosexuality is in born, it is like heterosexuality then. So, marriage is their right too just like heterosexuals. (marriage is a sexual relation? no, not necessarily.)
English maybe your first language, but, logic is not.
The whole homosexuality "issue" is an overblown politico used as a reason for lazy thinkers to be "political" and used by politicians as yet another debate card/support circuit.
That can be true - but, then, it can be said same for marriage too.. Marriage too is a tool used for political purposes. Just check who approves marriage. Either religious centers or state centers. They are making profit from sexual relations. Lets say I won't have a sexual relation with gal or guy, but, I can marry her or him.. Is this allowed?

:D You are funny guy (I dont know how to make Emoticons here). My logic is fine its just that we dont agree.
I will never support their marriage. Man has a stick and a women a hole for a reason (sex, procreation, etc). Man to man is just wrong (We can debate for hours but I will stop here).
