Why Polish people are fat ?

and dont even think of giving me any of that "naturally gifted will rise to the top of the economic pile" rhetoric BS.

Naturally gifted people - in my opinion - often struggle with the realities of capitalism. I have a great example in my school - the most talented child really struggles when others don't play fairly.

The quesiton is why do people put up with it. Who has failed to inculcate in them sale resistance to all the fake foods and snack fads? Capitalists do not force this garbage down people's throats at gunpoint!

The blame rests squarely with education

how do we know that these are not one in the same?

Big pharma in the university (writing the texbook), the political agenda in the classroom, the media and research firms bought by the seller of the product, I could go on and on about the way the elite use the free market to gain all. Even your government, it is nothing new. Yes you must self educate and shut off the rest if you want true freedom?

We have doctors make up fake mental disorders for kids so companies can make money, all the while the government believes the research and funds it through school programs, classic example.

How do Poles feel about that?

Nope, that's why you don't tend to see brilliant minds becoming rich. Look in Poland with all those morons that made it - they didn't make it because they were intelligent, they made it because of hard work and ruthlessness.

I know one guy who has made several millions in his time - yet the same guy openly admits to having tied up people to a lamppost in a previous life.

Have you seen the adverts for McDonalds and Coca Cola lately? big business brainwashing at its finest. Unfortunately obesity does seem to be more prevalent among the poorer pockets of society, so im afraid im going to have to blame capitalism.

Blame their mouths, not any particular system. This as lame an excuse to explain the answer to the question the OP asked as any I've ever read.

Boom - well said, this guy gets it.

Let me give you an example i came across the other day. I was talking to my uncle about the food which we provide for our daughter, how its all fresh and organic where possible and that we hardly ever let her consume sweet lolly pops, crisps, drink sweet carbonated drinks such as Coca Cola, fast food such as McDonalds and also how were quite strict on chocolate. His reply was "ohh yeah my partner is like that as well but when im on my own with my daughter I let her eat the normal stuff."

Obviously i didn't comment at the time because i didnt want to offend him but said to my wife after "did you notice how he categorised junk food as normal?" This is the warping of the mind that capitalist advertising is directly responsible for.

I agree that this may be a typical grass-roots reaction, but my point is that no-one was born a fast-food and snack junky. The overpowering commercial brainwashing is a fact, but why is there so little resistance to it? Shouldn't more parents (like you), schools, governments, churches, community activists, ecologists, academia, NGOs, youth organisations, etc. get their act together and counterattack?

BTW which of the above-mentioned in your view is doing the most p*ss-poor job in that area?

I have not noticed many fat people in Poland but India's rising middle class certainly is getting fatter thanks to western junk food.

Honestly, if you can't figure out that eating food from McDonald's often is not healthy for you then you are dumb. Plain and simple.

This is not a problem with capitalism but a problem with the intelligence of some people.

This isnt a McDonalds specific issue mate, this kind of warping of the mind in terms of capitalist advertising is evident everywhere. Boy am i getting tired with people who just don't get it.

Honestly, if the issue began and ended at McDonald's then there would be no issue. I'm not sure why you've presented it as such but I'm wondering if the reason isn't plain and simple; )

Its all the E numbers and the laws allowing the addition of questionable chemicals that cause the problems. there are many documentarys such as food inc farmaggedon and one i ssaw the other day britains really disgusting foods (meat diary and fish) or just google mcdonalds pink slime. since i moved to poland I have been growing my own veg and have a few chickens and sheep which i raise in the garden its not that labour intensive and over the last few years i have stopped getting ill as much., i swap some lamb meat for organic pork and beef with the neighbours. its really the only way to avoid the artificial cr@p injected into everything i was at my friends the other week he had some uht milk when i read the ingredients it contained aspartame and milk flavouring!!!!

Generally poland has been slowly tricked into eating bad food meat content of kielbasa falling yearly thanks to regulations allowing connective tissue and organs to count as meat content the shockingly disgusting mechanically recovered chicken hamburgery cr@p the Mrm hotdogs pushed at every service station the cheese that contains no cheese the ice cream with no cream the crab sticks with no crab the list is endless the laws on food labelling are awful and the dangerous transfat laden foods banned in many european countries are sold here to an unsuspecting public but hey at least its not like the Usa with the MSG GMO and plastic and silicon legally added to ready meals and fastfood to bulk out the weight

^ Good summary of events.
More and more, as people are alerted to what is happening and the consequences of it. We have to start to ask ourselves what exactly the best recourse is for the individual to protect themselves from these products. The easy answer is not to buy them and that decision is also made easier through knowing what is in the products we believe to be unhealthy.

Keep up the good work gents.
One old video that I watched a few years back is called "The Future of Food." It really alerted me to some of the practices that have corrupted modern agriculture.

I'm sure I've read that Poland has the lowest level of obesity in the EU. It may be increasing, but that's probably true of other countries too (I know it is for the UK).

Here in Britain some research was published recently showing that despite rising obesity we actually eat fewer calories and less fat than we did in the 1970s. The problem is that we exercise a lot less - we drive everywhere instead of walking or cycling, and we're much less likely to do manual work. I'm guessing trends for Poland are similar.

It may be increasing,

I wouldn't trust any 'official' figures about that - there are plenty of very overweight people in PL and it does seem to be increasing as car use and processed foods are on the rise.

Obesity is not a monopoly of the Poles.
Pls do not accept my views for granted.
Pls visit the Midwest to view the cornfield ar*es!

Pls quote some good unbiased research which addresses the issue of frequency of obesity in Poland, as compared talk ally!

Why Polish people are fat ?

My cousin who visited the US from Poland is considered obese in Poland. But in the US he felt the need to gain more weight to feel more comfortable in public spaces ;). So by the US measures people who are considered 'fat' in Poland are considered 'normal' in the US. And the topic starter has never been to Poland; his/her statement proves that.

I think that fat in USA/UK is the same as obese in Poland. I didn't see any obese people in Poland just some of them fat.

Mobility scooters- designed I guess for old people are used by obese in UK/USA so they can eat more be fatter and fatter and don't bother walking anymore.

In Poland it tends to be the men who are fat. I've seen couples eating out a few times where the man stuffs himself and the woman eats nothing at all.

Also I once saw a guy on a train, in the Wars wagon, eat a very large main course and immediately order the same thing again.

Btw, people don't whizz around in those mobility scooters just for being fat. Not in the UK anyway, where obesity is taken seriously by the health authorities.

The thread, although old, was just made to be provocative. You will see fat people in USA, Germany, Ireland, even a poor country like Mexico. It makes no sense to say why are people in a certain country fat. It is not specific to countries, although statistically I think Texas is supposed to be the fattest place in the world isn't it?

As a Texan native living in Arizona I have to go "Survey says? BZZZZRT!"
Texas does not even hit top 10.

Mississippi has been the triple crown winner in #1 for well over 6 years and top 10 are normally states on either side of the blue ridge, top to bottom. As far north as Ohio and WV..and south with Louisiana and Ol Miss. With Delaware and OK being kinda tacked in last few years.

Obesity is lower in smaller sized monied states, especially with large metro areas and high ostracization for imperfect women, a lot of entertainment industry and heavier influxes of EU immigration.

Please keep to the topic.

I know someone not only 50- obese- walking with stick, huffing-puffing all the time. I bet in a few years she will end up in mobility scooter. When someone is fat their joins give up, so yes there are lots health issues but caused by stuffing your mouth all the time.Sorry, not lots sympathy from me.

I can think of a few of those here in Poland, including people working as doctors - and yes, same here: no sympathy.
