What is a Multiplexer? Could someone please explain?

Hi, Could someone please explain what is a Multiplexer, and why it was important that we have one in Poland? There seems to much talk about it, but technology-wise its a real puzzle to me, and I am an engineer. Does anyone know why we do not hear about multiplexers outside Poland. Thanx

We do. Most European countries use them in one form of the other. In PL, people like to talk about technical details whether necessary or not. You'll notice this in Media Saturn when people are firing lists of pointless questions to the sales assistant when you just want to buy something and go.

It's just a system combining several input systems into one output Basically transmitting data (either Multiplex TV or, phone called or internet etc) through one cable or channel rather than many. Which makes it cheaper.

At the moment they're setting up a multiplex TV platform - not unlike the UK's digital free-to-air channels. There's some very minor but loud controversy about allocating slots because one particular TV station wants a slot without meeting the financial conditions.

That's definitely not true.

It's a little hard to believe you're an engineer.

Multiplexer is a device that combines two or more signals for transport along fewer wires (or carriers).
As for your original question, you need to specify what signals do you need to multiplex. Audio, analog video, DVI, HDMI, ethernet, cable, wireless?
