Moving to Gdansk from Lodz - having doubts

Hello everyone,

I have received a job offer in Gdansk. Although I have said "yes" already, I don't believe I am a 100% sure I should go. Here's my background:

- I currently live and work in Lodz. It is my 3rd year here.
- My work starts in the afternoon and it goes till evening (8 hours a day)
- my gf is from here, although she is studying in another city.
- My network (friends, colleagues, acquaintances etc.) are all here

In Gdansk my salary will be the same as it is now, but I will work from morning to afternoon (8 hours), therefore social life is present. I know that Gdansk is more expensive than Lodz, but also prettier. I'd do smth completely different from what I do now (right now I am not very satisfied with what I do and I believe that could be different in Gdansk). However, I don't know a single soul in Gdansk.

It is "funny" to say that for some time I've been thinking about moving out of Lodz, but now, when it comes to reality, I am having doubts.

What would you do?

Thanks for "listening" to me.

."I know that Gdansk is more expensive than Lodz"

I would stay in Lodz, wait for a better financial offer

No. What's more expensive? Rent? Don't tell anyone the secret, but some things (food for example) are cheaper here.

but also prettier

Actually Gdansk is a bit of a ******** when you look deeper......

However, I don't know a single soul in Gdansk.

Just say hello:)

I've been thinking about moving out of Lodz, but now, when it comes to reality, I am having doubts.

Depends how important your friends are. And what are friends? Never been stabbed in the back? That's good! You've heard the old adage "A change is as good as a rest...? " There are some cracking places here. Middle Poland is boring as. You deserve better.

yes, I was talking especially about rent. Here I pay 1050zl for a good kawalerka, including bills and internet. 12 minutes from work by tram.

Actually Gdansk is a bit of a ******** when you look deeper......

well, for sure it is not perfect, but I believe it is nicer than Lodz, no?

Never been stabbed in the back?

stabbed in the back here? No, not yet. I have good friends here, but it is only because of this I will never go anywhere so...maybe it is just a matter of moving out of comfort zone.

another question I have is that if there is some kind of monthly card for public transportation in Gdansk. Coz here there is one called Migawka and I pay 192zl and it is valid for 3 months. It can be used in trams and buses.

Thanks again

Same here, if you are lucky.....My pal rented such a place. No Mod Cons, but absolutely OK.
Gdansk has a very modern transport system, second to none in Poland. but as I said, I am no fan of the place.

I live in Gdynia:) Come on down, the more the merrier - it is by far the best place in Poland, in spite of the **** weather.

- I currently live and work in Lodz. It is my 3rd year here.

I went from Sopot to Lodz after living in Sopot for 2 years - I could stand Lodz just for half a year(big depression), my job in Lodz was what I wanted, that is why I left Trojmiasto. Lodz is so dark and depressing, I would say in Trojmiasto, I would feel better. If the pay is not bad, I suggest you to move, you will feel better in Trojmiasto (in my case I would not even think, I would go back :)

- my gf is from here, although she is studying in another city.

I think, this is the most important part you should be thinking.

I live in Gdynia:)

Is it possible to live in Gdynia and commute to Gdansk? How long would it take by public transport?

yes, I experienced that lol it reminded me of the Netherlands.

Where do you live now then?

I live in Cracow for a year, before that I tried to go back for Trojmiasto but it was not easy to find a job back there.

In my opinion, the best place is to live is Trojmiasto if one`s economic situation is good.

If you are close to the main train station it will not be a problem, as far as I remember during the working hours, you have train every 10-15 minutes to Gdansk. It can take some time by the way, around 40 minutes.

Anybody has an idea how much would cost a rent of a kawalerka or a room in Gdansk, with everything included?

I like Trojmiasto. It's the best place to live in Poland in my experience.

But this Gdansk has a very modern transport system, second to none in Poland made me laugh. They've only just added a couple of new SKM trains to that creaking excuse for metro - and neither the Gdansk nor the Gdynia stations are handy for the centre. Although Lodz is a transport disaster.

Sorry?

Gdansk has the best tram system in Poland and two separate suburban lines now to Gdynia. Both central stations are 5 minutes to the city centre or Old Town. For Gdynia I often take the Metropolitan line via the airport, heated and a high level of comfort. 6 zlotys. Plus Gdansk especially has an extensive modern bus fleet. Gdynia has those trolleybuses, not comfortable to ride in, but efficient.

Generally, the infrastructure is second to none, and the timetables and statistics will bear up that assertion. Just cant find the energy to serve them up but take a look at jakdojade.pl.....

zl 1,200.

From the railway station, straight down Lutego to Skwer Kosciouszki and the sea front is 7 minutes.

Well, lived here 30 months now. If the babcias get out of the way, then definitely. I am a fit old bugger though and don't loiter.
