Also, this act of enthronement reveals that Poland secretly or subconsciously cherishes the wish to re-introduce monarchy. I have always said that France and Russia are hidden monarchies whereas the UK contrary to its name is a (hidden) republic. The monarchy serves the UK as a practical device for avoiding an election of the president, who will be a much more controversial figure, as well as is an important factor for the tourist industry. In Poland a monarch is desired as a symbol of the past and the glory and also as a symbol of creating a state out of nothing as its first ruler Mieszko I seems to be a political genius judging from today's perspective. On top of that, our monarchy was abruptly and ruthlessly stopped by foreign powers which fact destroyed the continous tradition lasting more than 800 years.

The monarch in Poland was never so strong as a monarch in France. In Poland monarchs were controlled by variuos circles of influential groups and forced to sign the pacta conventa that restricted them in many ways from the very beginning of their reign. Thus, a symbolic figure in the position of a king would be better than a real one. And a spiritual figure such as Christ would possibly be the best candidate one could have ever dreamed of.

Thus, enthroning Christ as King of Poland may be seen as a sign of various psychological, historical and - last, but not the least - religious needs of the nation.

I don't think the Trinity is nonsense. It's just a simple way of representing the concept of a multi-faceted being who combines power (God the Creator)with wisdom and justice (the Holy Spirit) and love and mercy (God the Son). Powerful, wise, just, loving and merciful, not a bad old combination :)

A Russian lady (later married a Pole) once told me that her family in Moscow had to rely on the stuff they grew on their small farm in Siberia during the Yeltsin era when food supply was really scarce. It's impossible for anybody to dine at the finest Michelin resaurant in Poland. I'll leave it for you to work out why. Personally I prefer the best non-Michelin starred restaurant in Poland (according to Gault & Millau), the food there is much more to my and frankly the value is far better, the tasting menu with wine there sets me back about 600zl, as compared to over 1,200zl at Michelin starred places here.

I took two pallets of cat food to the vet today for them to give to an old lady that i'd overheard say that she can no longer afford to feed her cats, I will keep dropping food off every couple of months, there are better ways of spending 300zl.

I am happy being a boomer, I was really happy leaving the vets today, an expensive restuarant could never compete.

Anybody who doubts that baby-boomers (particularly those who refused to serve their country when called upon to do so) are the most pathetic generation of all can simply note the way a poster revived a thread which had been dead for more than a year just so he could quote himself.

Both boomers and millenials share similar traits and are repugnant in totally different ways. Boomers, those born between '45-'59, frequently expect stuff to be handed to them by a welcoming social services-style Federal Government from the late, lamented New Deal Era, i.e. let the freebies reign supreme forever! Guess what? The spigot's gonna get turned off, sooner rather than later. This leads me to the latter, namely, the millenials! The latter, as opposed to the former, have given up on the '68'ers ideology of taking big gov't to task for social injusticel. The reasons??! The millenials wouldn't know a civil right from a civil wrong, 'cuz they are the offspring of the boomers, or post-boomers, whose folks were often nothing more than bunch of whining, red-diaper dope babies, uncritically schooled in the greatness of Communism.

Neither group holds a candle in my mind to the Greatest Generation. If only the Greatest Generation hadn't fallen asleep at the switch and kept more of an eye on their boomer children, this country would have been far better off.
