My daughter is currently pregnant with my first grandchild; we are from Polish descent and we were wanting to give her a Polish name to carry on tradition. Anyone know any good "girl" Polish names or ideas?

I am not sure they are all girls names, but it is their name day today.

I love the names Magdalena, Justyna, and Elzbieta. I am old fashioned like that.

Ah yeah I like this one because of the short name Kasia.....classic and nice sounding.

I am half polish, but I've never lived in Poland. My parents sorted out the name question by making this a rule: every girls name has to end with an "A". I think this means a great deal when I travel to Poland because it makes the pronounciation of my name easier.

My favorite polish girlsname is: Evelina/Ewelina.

I also like Elisangela/Elizangela, Isabella, Angelika, Aleksandra, Celestina, Katarzyna/Katarina, Patrycja/Patricia, Karolina, Agata, Beata and so on.

I would prefer a name that works well internationally as well as in Poland. So I would prefer Katarina before Katarzyna although I think Katarzyna is more beautiful, the same goes for Patrycja/Patricia.

Frankly all the names mentioned here are pretty, feminine and popular.

Of course, like I said the girl name I love the very most is Norah...

i wouldn't name my daughter Norah... it may sound pretty in English but in Polish it means 'burrow"....
or Tanya ("cheap")...

You could also chose an international-sounding first name and a Polish sounding (Katarzyna?) middle name. When she gets older she can chose the one she likes the most...

PS. Don't like Katarina - it sounds Russian and reminds me of a certain Russian oppressor...

I don't think we'll ever know her daughter's name.. but my choice would be Celina or Sabina.

i don't have any kids so i don't worry about that yet, but i know it's hard to choose "the" name...

i didn't like my name when i was younger because it's popular and i didn't want to use my middle name because i thought it's cheesy... but i've got used to the 1st one and got many compliments about the 2nd one, so i'm fine now... but the times are crazy, just as children names... be aware...:)

I have a curiousity. I noticed that you guys usually like to have the names short. Like Basia, Krzys or others alike. Can you tell me what would be the short forms, the more familiar forms for: Elena, Mariana, Tereza, Michael? - that is if you have those names.
