SPICE MANTRA is a great INDIAN FOOD store in RASZYN . They have the biggest variety of spices/chutneys/namkeens/ready to eat/gits etc. Check it out! You will be happy! And reasonably priced. If u buy a BIG qty ...ask fr a discount!!!! They are ready to oblige.

we dont always prefer the climate to be hot, infact quite the opposite, run away from it at any given oppertunity!

Quite understandable. I were in a neighbouring country to India due to some official matter. It was Bangladesh (regarding the Garments Industry). It was hot.

However I still remain happy remembering one of the best beaches I've seen yet. A very good place for an entire family to visit (unlike Thailand I presume). The food is almost Indian food....

By the way, one friend told me that Islamic Indian Food and the Classical Indian Food has some differences. There is a certain Indian food with the Islamic touch (basically a fusion of Persian, Arabic and 70% Indian ingredients and recipie). I had no opportunity to verify his claims... but I have tried Indian food a few times, and it have been quite varied....makes me think if its true....ANY INDIAN TO CONFIRM THIS STATEMENT?

Namaste's location in the old town in Warsaw is fantastic, large portions and not too expensive.

indiacurry..indiaexpress.pl and aarti

I went to IndiaCurry and was very disappointed with the quality, friends speak badly of IndiaExpress, feeling ill afterwards, etc, and Arti is unpredictable. Not to mention the supermarket poppadoms they serve, and getting the orders wrong.

Namaste is still probably the best.

have freshly cooked authentic food

I very much doubt if any Indian restaurant in Europe has 'authentic food'.

Authentic in terms of what you find in Britain, maybe.

The topic is: Indian Stores In Warsaw

The topic was Indian stores, for the last week it seems to be about Indian Restaurants.

And the nice Indian restaurant on the corner of Nowogrodzka and Krucza is as much a store as a restaurant. Perhaps more of a store. Only three tables, so hard to get a seat.

A few of the ethnic restaurants here also have shop sections. Samara is a great example.

ITS 2 TABLES MIND U!:)

But still a good shop - I buy quite a few products there, and know many others who do. The restaurant meals are great too.

You mentioned reviews of Namaste. I googled it 'Namaste Warsaw' and found the following:

inyourpocket.com/poland/warsaw/restaurants-cafes/indian/Namaste-India_19463v

I notice that the most recent is from 'Martha Jones' (who presumably travelled there in a police box). She spells the name of her home town incorrectly :-)) and has the same eccentric capitalisation as in your posts.

Which moniker do you prefer, Carl or Martha?

carl marx

But plenty of people like it, it has a very loyal clientele, and they also sell a big range of retail products, spices, teas, etc, which your restaurant probably does not, Martha.

I think you'll find that commercial kitchens usually have some food on the go. They don't prepare it all from raw while people are twiddling their thumbs. And I'm sure they don't boil chicken or lamb, Martha.

TRUE THAT! but not a week before that too in 8 sq metre kitchen which is not even commercially equiped

Tesco doesn't seem to do them and that's horrid.

Tried Carrefour? The bigger ones here do Sharwoods sauces.

I need an Indian curry

There's a few shops here. My friend has an office in Katowice. That's near you isn't it? I could send a jar down, and you could collect it next time you're in K.

That's be much appreciated, jonni. There was an Indian restaurant here but it went under. There is Sharwoods stuff but at 30PLN a jar, that's kinda steep. Oh, that reminds me. My Scottish friend invited me across to his place. All I need to do is provide the meat and he is offering to make a vindaloo. I might plump for a madras as that's more my preferred strength. A vindaloo is blow your socks off kinda stuff.

Again, thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it :)

He could be Scottish, Harry. Or from Poznań or Kraków. Or even a Jew, who knows? ;) ;)

I have a cunning plan, mi lord! A chicken fillet and a vindaloo on the weekend, I'm gonna brave it!

For Chicken Tikka-
In a bowl, mix all the above ingredients for the marinade and marinate chicken for approximately 1hr.
Grill it / Preheat oven and cook chicken till done.
For the Gravy

Onion Finely chopped
Tomatoes Chopped
Garlic - Ginger Paste
Cloves (optional)

Heat oil in vessel, fry onions and add giner and & garlic paste.
Let it fry well till the oil separates
Then add all the powdered masala and tomatoes, salt to taste add a little water and let the gravy thicken.

Cheers for the recipe, lad. Many recipes should be flexible anyway as to the amount of taste you want sth to have. Curry is one of those things. I'll gladly give it a try as I have access to specialist ingredients.

Hey :)

I came to know one Indian shop they have quite nice prices then others. And also they have full range of Haldiram snacks and food. I tried some ready to eat foods and ohhhh.... fast, nice and really cheap. I recommend them. If anybody wants spices, rice, they can visit. tasteofindia.pl

I once had the unluckiness to eat at indian restaurant(I thought it was persian till I found out late) and my complain is they don't give a bag to vomit together with the food they serve.

That is because they do not normally serve rednecks who only appreciate their meat/potato/sausage diet ;)

I would certainly agree with that. You tried that new Indian place out in Praga yet?

If you remember the name and the street, I am interested. BTW, Haven't made it to Kamienica theatre yet, but my wife has and liked the play she saw.

A friend and I are splitting a 10 liter bucket of hot sauce from a Vietnamese distributor. 70 zl. I'm on a Sechuan kick at the moment. I'm gonna die from fire:)

La Bono [labono.pl] It offers mainly Indian food and some European as well. First reports are promising but aren't from people who really know their curry. I'm planning a trip there tomorrow. There's also a new Indian place in Mokotow somewhere. Planning a trip there on Friday!

I've never seen anything in Kamienica. Frankly I'm not sure how I'd feel about sitting in the dark in the basements of a former gestapo HQ, who knows what went on down there!

It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Try [ostrakuchnia.pl] My personal tips are Blair's After Death sauce (Sudden Death is pretty much too strong to use and both Mega Death and Ultra Death are of the 'stupidly hot' variety), Mustard Gas sauce (half a bottle nearly put my mate in the drunk tank but that's another story) and Death Rain Habanero chips.

Lodz has two indian restraunts..Buddha[dunno why they named it that but the food sucks] and Ganesh on pitrkowska[sucks but less]..havent seen an indian store here though...Tried an indian restraunt in Krakow(pretty good) but i guess krakow is krakow(nothin like krakow).

By the way, one friend told me that Islamic Indian Food and the Classical Indian Food has some differences.

ok here goes...there is nothing really called indian food as such. there are 27 different states in india and the food in each one of them is completely different from one another. uncomparable. but bangladeshi food is a lot like Bengali food(being so close to west bengal) and tradtitionla islamic north indian food. Majority of food in bangladesh is based on fish(same as in West Bengal) but being a muslim country they also have the tradition nihari and biryani. thats what i know(not much since i dont cook for nuts).
