The film has been made by the Opus film company in Lodz , and directed by two Israeli people from Tel aviv....its about to be released in Israel , not sure when it will hit Polish cinema.....Its about slightly ecentric nutters living in Poland , god knows why they wanted me to star in it...? I am also the narrater for the film....
Congrats! I'm jealous. I definitly want to see this one. Could you tell us more about the plot, or perhaps attach a script of your film? I'm just curious.
youtube.com/watch?v=dogOWLHwjhI over half an hour on the perception of Poland by some foreigners. It was done back in 2001 mind you. Post 2004 may be different.
If you go to the Opus films website.. opusfilm.com then click on films..then documentaries , then completed films , you can read a bit about the film...
Yes , the pic of the guy in the car is me.... and no , i don,t know where you can see this award winning epic...!
The flim was made by a Polish company called Opus films in Lodz....and its called.. HOST AND ALIEN..
I recall reading something about this it was some Israelis who contacted people over the internet for free places to stay, while traveling around Poland.
It was in conjunction with the Polish/Israel film expo 2009 when they were dishing out grants for such ventures.
Yes..Thats how it began , i am a member of a hosting organisation that gives free guides and places to stay for travellors , and it was through this club that i was contacted by Keren and Adi...
They were looking not only for places to stay , but also people who were interesting enough to be in the film they were making... By interesting i mean people who were a little bit nuts , or unusual , or in some way not your usual type , i guess i fitted one of those slots...!
While they were filming me they stayed in my home , and we became good friends , we were joined by a Polish cameraman from Opus films who was also a great guy...
They told me i was a great actor with natural talent , i thought they were just being polite , but they want to make another film with me , so maybe its true....
We keep in touch with each other since they went back to Tel aviv , and are making plans for the next film , at the moment they are in China making a film...

Wildrover - there are a lot of grants out there for aspiring film makers. They use Poland because the standards are very high and of course the sets are very cheap and abundant. The Andrej Wajda film studios in Warsaw are always looking for wannabe actors. If you have potential contact one of the agents in Warsaw bcus there are always slots for english speaking actors. I have heard of a few non-poles here, who get work regularly and the money is normally 700-1000 PLN per day. Good luck
A lot of people say Poland is not very good at anything , but for sure the Polish film industry is well respected all over the world , and film makers from all over the world head for Lodz to be trained there...
Keren and Adi seriously wanted me to go to acting school in the UK to further my talents , but i think i don,t really want to be going back to school at my age...If i had discovered this talent twenty years ago then perhaps i may have done it...
As for doing work for other film companies , i can,t really . i promised that first i will make another film with Keren and Adi...Keren is convinced i am going to be a star , and she wants to be the one that discovered me..!!!
I am not sure i really want to be famous , although the money would be nice...
I quite liked being a motorcycle racing star , as you could get all the hero worship at the track , but yet go to the local supermarket and nobody knew who you were..... i think i would hate to have press and people in my face all the time...
But i will make another film with them...i guess it will take place in Russia...

I was talking about work for english speaking " extra's " not that you will become Poland' s next Jan Englert lol
Hostandalien Poland is a road movie in the age of internet. A foreign tourist, visiting Poland for the first time, embarks on a journey through the country while relying on a host-exchange website, in which locals offer travelers hospitality and a place to sleep, free of charge, in their own homes. The film is a travelogue documentary. Similarly to the classic road movie genre, its structure is composed of episodes depicting different characters the tourist meets on his way as he moves from one host to the next, through varying landscapes and unfamiliar living spaces.
There is some great countryside shots of the forests near my home , the mist in the valleys...worth watching just for that...
how do I find these host exchange websites? nevermind.. I found them Now I have to find out if the travelers, as well as hosts, have references/ratings...
Now I have to find out if the travelers, as well as hosts, have references/ratings...
On the site i am registered on there are ratings and reports about people who have hosted , and safeguards to ensure the person you are staying with is who they say they are....
