What are the favorite (foreign) countries for Polish expats to live/retire?

And I don't mean favorite countries to work, but to live / retire. My acquaintance asked me this question recently and I didn't know a precise answer.

I know several who've retired to Egypt - mostly the area round Sharm El Sheik.

Witam! Considering the tiny amounts of Polish retirements, 99% of the Poles have to stay in Poland and struggle to just survive. The few very rich may go to countries like Spain to get sun. As to settling in Egypt, one has to be out of their mind.

Australia,Spain, USA.

We aren't talking about the ones who don't retire abroad, are we?


Yet some people do - Sharm is a lovely place.

Not a big fan of Sharm Jon, I much prefer Taba especially Taba heights, more natural easy to get to Jordan and Israel.


The title of threads is lost on some folk, Poles are always willing to tell you how poor they are.

In both of those communities though, I'd be very wary of trusting developers.

I would never buy anything in Egypt, wonderful country, friendly welcoming people long term real estate ownership there not for me.

i would imagine germany and the uk.

both are within easy visiting distance of folks back home.

If you're looking for a suggestion rather than statistical data I would say the best bet would be any EEA country out of the Eurozone. Of course it all depends on a number of factors, the most critical one being how much your retirement income was set at, but generally speaking I regard what I said as good advice for the next decade.

There are only a handful who can afford it - for them i would say Vienna, Switzerland, London, Paris and South of France most popular for tax and weather reasons plus flight connections.

Poles are taxed on their world wide income, there are structures in place in Poland which are far more beneficial than you would find in the Austria,Switzerland or the UK.

It depends. If someone spends less than half the year there and also severs certain other links, their income from outside PL isn't taxable.

Additionally, if an income derives from elsewhere and is paid into a bank account elsewhere, there's little if anything that the US can do.

Yes: (very) rich Poles are very fond of Cote d'Azur and also of Corsica. Basically rich Poles are like all the rich, they want sun :)

I have a Russian friend who set up shop in Nice selling Russian antiques to the Russian community there, he makes a fortune, his family still lives in Warsaw and he is based 9 months of the year in Nice.

No. If a pole emigrates and spends more than 183 days abroad he is not taxable in poland providing some other tests met. Plenty of very wealthy poles do this. As for polish structures there are some but it involves keeping your assets in poland and not everyone wants to do that.

New Zealand joinsthe group for defying western course. The only western nation with a lot to lose stands for its principles not caring what some USA's reaction will be. These are countries that stand for their own principles in a face of aggression and threat from nations richer and more powerful and more numerous (cowards). That takes real courage. I salute these nations.
