I'd love Waldemar Malicki and his one man piano show. See this program and listen song Dzis do ciebie przyjsc nie moge: tvp.pl/rozrywka/programy-satyryczne/co-tu-jest-grane/wideo/odc10/41750 . Malicki has performed throughout Europe, North and South America, Russia and Japan. If you do not like "classic" jazz or "classic" classic music you must see Malicki live!

Merged thread:
Popular Polish Singers/Musicians

Hello all,

I was just wondering, who are some current famous Polish singers and musicians in general? Who is Poland's Rihanna, Timberlake, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, etc.? The only famous singer I've heard of is Doda, but I heard of her long ago. I know Poles listen to more than just American music, right?

Thanks!

Poland has some of the greatest Jazz groups of the world. If you don't know there work, check into it, and if you love Jazz music, as I do, you will love this.

Monika Brodka became recently something like Florence + the Machine:

And this is the only nice tune I heard for recent months. Unfortunately those times are not anymore good times for Polish pop musicians. 90s were the times of good quality pop music, then came the crap, now there is almost non-existence of Polish popular music (I mean there is no a true star).

Gaba Kulka would be (literally) Polish Kate Bush.

For hip-hop: avant-grate rappers would be Fisz and L.U.C alongside with Polish downtempo producent Noon.
As for 50 cent counterpart... maybe Tede (but he makes a lot of gangsta mocking).
The cult Polish hip-hop musicians were: Kaliber 44 (not existing anymore), Paktofonika (not existing anymore), WWO (I don't know what's with them), Ostr, Slums Attack/Peja

There is a great fashion in Poland for reggae-like music.

I know Poles listen to more than just American music, right?

Yes we also listen a lot of British music ;)

Just watched a television interview with singer Peter Cetera, from the legendary group Chicago. He mentioned he's half Polish. His musical career was greatly influenced, by his fond appreciation of Polka songs and melodies.

As for PolAm musicians, the lead singers from the bands Alkaline Trio, The White Stripes, and Type O Negative are/were Polish-American.

Pat Benatar's full name at birth was Patricia Mae Andrzejewski. Michael Anthony was the bassist for the rock band Van Halen and his full name is Michael Anthony Sobolewski. The guitarist for the even crappier rock band Bon Jovi is named Richie Sambora. The Vaisnava and and former lead singer for the band Live is named Ed Kowalczyk.

Witold "Vitek" Kiełtyka from the Polish band "Decapitated". Amazing drummer, sadly no longer with us following road accident in 2007.
"Gone but not forgotten" R.I.P :-(

It's ridiculous that nobody has mentioned the two greatest Polish musical performers of the 20th century.

There's a concert here in Tel Aviv of Krzysztof Penderecki conducting the Polish Requiem.

Can anybody tell me if it's worth going to hear it?

It's ridiculous that nobody has mentioned the two greatest Polish musical performers of the 20th century.

I was of course referring to Ryszard Reidel and Józef Skrzek of SBB.
:)
Here's some more:) Nobody like Tadeusz Nalepa

I for one don't care for Polish classical music, having been forced to listen to Chopin as a child and also to try to play it and failing hopelessy. Lol. Very long fingers needed.
