Some Polish dogs have a very miserable life

In Poland many dogs are chained to roadsides and sometimes alone in a forest. The dogs live a very miserable life. Why the owner should insist on keep dogs chained in this way is incomprehensible. There is no explanation as to why this should be allowed. There must be a total ban in the EU (Europe) to have animals permanently chained, tied or having the dog in small enclosures

I agree. There are some idiots who do chain their dogs, but many people in Poland love their dogs.
At least they don't eat dog, like the savages in China do.

It' s difficult to change the mentality of the old man/woman. One day I came to visit my grandmother in the countryside and saw the dog tied to a chain, I was little kid. I asked my Grandma why her dog is so thin that the ribs were visible .... She said: "ah, because of his race dear child".

It mostly happened in villages. Dogs were thin because there was not enough food for everybody, they were trained to protect property, these dogs were not puppies for sure so they had to be chained. If dog behaved like sweat puppy he was chained in forest to be sure he will not come back to his owner (it happened but not everyone did that). Some people just left dogs in another village far away from home, not chained.

Summary: Old times, different priorities, different mentality. Now only individuals treat animals like that. So please don't judge people, but if you do then be sure you took all the circumstances.

there is an animal welfare number you can call. I have called it before and had an animal removed from a home. sorry, i don't care what the circumstances are- there is no excuse for treating dogs the way some people treat them- and not just in Poland. there is an animal home we donate to and my husband has the animal welfare number on speed dial for when I call him bawling my eyes out after seeing a sad dog.

Home sought for 'Polish-speaking' dog

news.stv.tv/scotland/north/281071-home-sought-for-polish-speaking-dog/

Dodan was brought up in a Polish-speaking home and only understands words in that language.
The four-year-old terrier was sent to Aberdeen rescue home when his owner returned to Poland without him

In some towns during the 1950s and 1960s, it was popular for teenagers to abuse animals in Poland. They would literally sometimes throw cats against walls until they died.

In opposie to this sad stories...another sad story. When my friend was a little child, he saw a frozen cat in neigborhood, he started to cry... but suddenly he had an idea(!!!!)... He took the cat to his home, brought him to the kitchen and put on the floor next to the heater.

No, it's true. Well when I say true, it's the Aberdeen dog's home getting in some free publicity to unload dogs for Christmas, to my ken. Pedigree dogs go for £200 minimum usually, so this one will have probably already found a cheapskate owner soon after broadcast. They'll have some other mutt to offer when the next rescuers turns up, to be sure.

Dafug? Chained alone in the forest? I somehow cannot imagine that.

At least they don't eat dog, like the savages in China do.

Is there such a big difference between eating a dog than animals we eat in Europe, like horse, pig, donkey or other? It's amatter of preference. I don't think it's worse, I eat what I like and what I'm used to (not dogs). Maybe we eating salami made of horse or donkey are seen aas savages by the Chinese?

no they will eat just about anything

the point :)

Unfertilized dead embrione of a chicken served with oil and mustard is considered to be one usual delicacy on the other side of the planet. Here. The mayonnaise ;)

i have two dogs. i would never eat them. they are smelly.

I agree with you Natasa. I would also eat something else than dog - or this "delicius" egg.

And by the way: mayo is good for you.

A Chinese friend recommended "young dogs and old cats".

Summary: Old times, different priorities, different mentality. Now only individuals treat animals like that. So please don't judge people, but if you do then be sure you took all the circumstances.

I agree. Although it saddens me to see dogs chained up, we should try to understand the mentality of the oldies who do it. The old guy two houses down from us cooks hot food for his chained-up dog every day, but lives on sandwiches himself. It's not a lack of love; just (a bad) tradition.

My wife and her mother visited a small Polish village a couple of years ago to see an old friend, the friend showed them a video of a village party where by the main attrcation was a cat with cans tied to its tale or something. She continued to laugh whilst the cat totally freaked out. These people just dont know any better, they are all victims of their society.

Lots of chained dogs in that village.

There are quite a few stray dogs on the go. That's a sad situation as winter is approaching.

For these there is a good law that tells hunters to eliminate them, as they cause substantial damage to local animals and can be dangerous to people too. They hunt in packs like wolves.

If not those wild dogs then their owners should have their bollocks put in a vice.

that's what everyone in my granma's village did with their dogs; keep them chained in the daytime, let them loose at night. Nothing's wrong with that. If you had to get out at night, everybody knew about it. ;)

I knew these sort of things were happening very frequently back in the day. I'm shocked that it's still happening though. Wow...it's amazing how uncivilized Poles can act.

The worst thing i ever witnessed in Poland was in Swidnica. There was a puppy boxer dog walking down the road with its owner and her son, the woman was shouting at the dog like a crazy person and whipping him with the lead. She was basically trying to teach the puppy to walk down the street off of the lead, every time the dog walked away from her she whipped him, it got to the point where the dog was literally trying to get away from her becasue she was whipping him so much. The kid with her was totally in on the cruelty, thinking thats the way you teach dogs to walk off of the lead. The more the dog tried get away the more she whipped him.

I would say how uncivilized people can act.

Thats it, its all about circumstance.

Ever been to Spain? they shoot homeless dogs right on the spot or put them on fire just for fun.

When i was in Greece last summer i saw a dog chained at the roadside without any shadow whatsoever in the summerbreeze. He did not even have water...

I released the dog, and bought him a meal (kebab) at the resturant close by. Told them it was for me and then i made them watch the dog eat it :)

The tourists apploauded while the barbaric Greeks just stared at me.

What happend next when i left the town only god knows.

these types of stories make me think i wouldn't worry if 60% of the human race was just wiped out.
