Good life is different for different people.eg: back packers/ English teachers = pay there rent in time,go out 2/3 times a week for a beer.

For business people= have most comfort and steady income.and pay for there kids education etc easily

Merged: living expense in Wroclaw city

Hi,

I been offered a job (~2200 Euro:gross) in a telecommunication company in Wroclaw city. Can some body help to work out:

1. Living expense (2 bedroom house or flat) with or without bills?
2. Any reliable website to check available houses/ flats?
3. How much are taxes and what type (council, income etc) ? Any website to calculate net pay ?
4. What about medical treatment charges? Like in UK you can visit freely to local GP and only pay for prescription.

I will be moving with my partner and new born baby in June.

Regards,
Adi

That's 9000 PLN gross, 6000 net. Good for a single male, not so tempting for a married couple, and bad for a couple with children. It would not be worth your time to come to Wrocław for so little money, especially since the chances of your wife finding work are essentially zero.

A two bedroom apartment will cost 2500 to 3500 PLN all inclusive, rent, administration fees and utilities included except for internet /phone/TV.

Transport for you and your wife will cost about 200 PLN, and probably more if your wife is going to rely on taxis to get around. You won't be able to afford a car.

Food and household expenses, including diapers and baby food, will set you back another 1500 to 2000 PLN.

Then there are large purchases like clothing, furniture and electronics to take into account, as well as entertainment. Which your wife is going to desperately need, or she will go crazy in Wrocław. And, of course, babysitting.

That leaves precious little left over to save up for a rainy day fund. Forget about substantial savings. And forget about trips back to India, Pakistan or Bangladesh to visit family.

Sorry, but you are going to have to make at least 3300 Euro or more to make moving to Poland with a wife and baby worthwhile. And even then, your savings potential will be dangerously low at a time in your life when you can ill afford it. Stay in the UK, or explore better options in Western Europe or other English speaking countries.

Thanks for detailed information. It seem like the pay is alarming and very low. Giving more detail of my job, I may be joining Nokia as research engineer. I have PhD in telecom with 6+ years of teaching experience so thought to move to industry e.g. Nokia. The gross pay (2200 euro) is sort of proposal which came up at the beginning of selection process but I haven't confirmed or responded. I do have offer of ~3600 euro (gross) in UK in a university but my first preference will be industry so thats how Nokia came to story. From your point, I would be discussing between 3200 - 3700 euro (gross) for good family life with saving as well in subject city, right ?

By the way how did you work out net pay ?

I have PhD in telecom with 6+ years of teaching experience so thought to move to industry e.g. Nokia.

If that's your plan, go to an advanced country where the R&D money is, not someplace like Poland. Nokia are notoriously low payers in Wrocław. I know a bunch of engineers there, and all of them are looking for better jobs because if low pay and very limited opportunities for advancement.

And, frankly speaking, I find Silver Forum a depressing place to work: five engineers crammed into small offices, and a creepy security system that sends the message that you are untrusted and not welcome. Not a friendly workplace by any stretch of the imagination. It actually stifles creativity.

Sorry, but I think your plan of coming to Poland with a wife and baby in tow is a waste of your time, which would be better spent exploring much better options in Western European or English speaking countries. Like I said, go where the R&D money flows in abundance. And make any decisions based on savings potential in absolute dollars.

Hey, It depends you will gone live with family or alone, if you are alone and what to live in shared accommodation it will be around 600zl+ bills. You can also get studio flat in 1400zl -1600zl+bills. If you are earning 10000zl per month then its more than sufficient than that you need. Your all expenses food, travel and accommodation will be near around 2500zl. I have no idea to taxes.

If you are from abroad i just you to think about coming into Poland on the basis of your race, you will not seen any information in English about racialism in Poland but truth is you will feel it everywhere here when you will live.

please go through these links and then take your decision:-

Merged: Cost of living per month in Wrocław

Hi All. I'm planning on moving to Wrocław in a couple of months and will have a monthly income of 4,000 - 5,000 PLN which I will be earning from my Internet business. I'm planning on renting a good, spacious 1 bed apartment for around 2500 pln (incl bills). As I will be working from it and spending a lot of time time there, I would prefer a comfortable place. Would the remaining money be enough to live off reasonably comfortably? I would plan on working hard, going gym and eating in during the weeks and eating out and going to bars and clubs on the weekends. I appreciate any advice.

Would the remaining money be enough to live off reasonably comfortably?

1500 PLN a month after paying for your apartment will ensure a reasonable diet and perhaps even allow you to save up a very small amount as a rainy day fund if you are frugal and cook homemade meals at home from scratch. Whether you will be comfortable depends on what you are used to and what you expect. You won't be comfortable in terms of savings, even at 2500 PLN a month. If being able to save a substantial amount of money is a priority for you, forget about coming to Poland.

eating out and going to bars and clubs on the weekends

Both of these can potentially gut your budget. With 1500 a month, you are going to have to be very careful. The cost of eating out and entertainment are rather high relative to wages in Wrocław. You won't be able to afford the high life, but modest recreation is within your reach.

Also, alcohol and the "expat" are a dangerous combination. Ditto girls and the "expat". I would have a lot more confidence of you making it in Poland if you were a celibate teetotaler. Actually, I have little confidence in your making it because you mention a comfortable apartment, eating out and spending time in clubs and bars in your post, but didn't mention a single word about savings. Sorry to be frank, but this is a strong indication that you will end up living barely within or even beyond your means rather soon in the game.

To put things in perspective, the 4000 to 5000 PLN you are making a month is about the minimum to make moving to Poland worth considering. Your focus should be on living a minimum lifestyle, as for an "expat".

Another thing is that success for the "expat" is largely determined by how much money they are able to save up. You won't be staying in Poland forever, and you want something in your bank account to show for the time you invested there. At your income, you won't be able to save up that much at all, even if you live like a monk. Much less so if you live like you describe in your post.

Thanks a lot DominicB. I appreciate it. Yes, I'm just thinking modest recreation. Just having the freedom to have a few drinks, meals etc.. Saving money isn't a priority. I just need to fund myself for my time there.

Saving money isn't a priority. I just need to fund myself for my time there.

If that's the case, you'll do fine as long as you don't overdo it with the recreational spending. Like I said, alcohol and girls are major threats to the budget.

If you are working remotely and don't have to actually be in Wrocław, you might consider living in the cities in the east of Poland: Białystok, Lublin or Rzeszów, or in an attractive small town like Cieszyn or Jelenia Góra or one of many other small towns. The cost of living would be a lot lower than in the big popular cities, especially Wrocław, Kraków and Warsaw, and your earnings would go a lot further.

Life in Wrocław, Kraków and Warsaw doesn't differ much from that in the Eastern cities until you earn substantially more than you will be making and are able to fully take advantage of what these cities have to offer. All of the eastern cities have universities, and there is plenty for you to do there, just about as much as you could on your budget in Wrocław, and perhaps even a bit more when you take the extra money you save on cost of living into account.

It depends on the company, coz he needs first valid work permit and it's easy for some companies but with the most no, let him try the company which provided you with the work permit.

5500 is not enough.. you can live but you will struggle with your husband.

I lived in Poznan on 5600 zl net a month for 2, since my partner didn't had a job at the time.

Is doable renting a flat for 2000 zl and we were even able to save money, but sure you must go cheap in many things like no cars (anyway u can live well with just the public transportation) and limit the entertainment.

When in need of something that in PL is kinda expensive (buy many new clothes or electronics, dentist, ...) you could start to struggle on that salary.

Considering that even your partner is in IT I think easily it'll find a job and on 2 similar salaries life will be very comfy.

Smnd1 there's a huge need for IT professionals in Wrocław. All in all it really depends what is your partners specialty. If he's a programmer it shouldn't be a problem - if it's something else - then there's gonna be a bit more struggle to find something. I'd recommend to start looking now.

Based on my quick research, 7000 to 8000 PLN (net) per month is quite reasonable, that's... 10,000K gross equals almost 7030 net
