Can EHIC be such document? :D And if not then what?

No, you cannot. The EHIC is a card which entitles you (as a citizen living permanently in the issuing country) to the same emergency treatment as a citizen living in Poland. It is not evidence of medical insurance cover in Poland. Entitlement to full insurance is only valid in the country which issued your card, but not in Poland.

In Poland with the card, you will be treated as a tourist who is entitled to medical emergency cover. Please read the full entitlements which area shown on-line of the card issuing country.

Poland wants to see that you are insured on a full-time basis in Poland whilst you are in Poland, for this you need evidence of private medical insurance which you will be able to get in Poland and for which you have to pay for.

Yes, it can. It's what they normally advise for people who have just moved to Poland.


It's not needed. It's enough to pay ZUS as an employee of some sort (or be self employed), or to use the EHIC. Or you can be covered through the NFZ through a family member in the same household that pays ZUS contributions, too.

Poland is rather laid back in this respect.

Just out of curiosity, as I am going to visit Zus in Krakow next week re my old age pension, I will ask about the EHIC and what entitlements that gives if I were to live in Poland.
