Dear PF members,

I am an asian working in poland for full time and paying monthly mandatory ZUS. I was wondering if there is a way to recover the money that i paid to ZUS for old pensions once i leave poland. The money is supposed to benefit me when i get old, but if i wont be living in poland, how the stuffs work? I have stayed in germany before and there, the pensions would be returned after two years of leaving the country. Does poland also has similar rules ? Does anyone has any information about it ?

Any info, much appreciated.

I am trying to figure out if PL has similar rules ! Otherwise who stays here for short terms is pouring our hard earn money in deep blackhole without benefitting anything at all !

NO chance whatsoever of recovering a penny/zloty paid into ZUS. For confirmation ask any ZUS office. The money has gone in the same way that in England, the money you pay for National Insurance goes, once you leave the country. Obviously if you have paid enough years in, you may be entitled to a pension when you retire - but that is all.

As for ZUS - look on their web pages, ask people - but NO.

Simple.

Refuse to pay it.

PS And don't do any work here that takes it automatically from your salary. Demand to be employed as a consultant, or don't come here to work - that is my advice, and it doesn't cost anything :)

Where a dual taxation agreement is not in place tax will be refunded after confirmation of leaving the country however the country your returning to would be the receiver of any refund to cover your pension there if your in Europe then dual taxation agreement s are in place everywhere so no chance anymore

I am an Asian, and there is no taxation agreement between my country and Poland. I already paid ZUS for 3 years and i am about to leave Poland. What would i have to do to make sure i will get atleast part of what i paid into ZUS ? Any link where i can find an elaborate procedure?

well, according to Polish law ZUS is not a tax (although it bears a remarkable resemblance).
