Marrriage with my best friend (a girl from Poland) for papers. What are the chances of getting caught?

Hey everyone, my name is John and I'm from Canada and currently live in Krakow.

I was thinking about getting married with my best friend (a Polish girl) to be able to get pass all the legal issues. We would live in the same room/flat.

What are the chances of getting caught? And what are the consequences?

I also want to buy a flat, so getting married would make most of the legal issues easier. If this post goes against the forum rules, I understand.

Please remember, before you go any further, that once you are married, your wife is legally entitled to half of everything you owe. Now, if that is no problem for you then go ahead.

If you want to buy a flat, and get a mortgage - she could ask for half the value of the flat as long as she is your wife. She may wish to have her name on all the paperwork. She may also never allow you to divorce her.

I understand that. However, that doesn't answer my original question. What are the chances of getting caught? And how strict is the process? She's my closest friend, so we could easily act like a couple when in the process.

And thank you, by the way. :-)

I think your chances of getting caught are minimal providing you are going to share a flat/apartment with her. If you are middle class and white Canadian it would help. Interview would often include so called personal questions so this is where you could possibly fail - example: your wife and you would answer if you you are wearing boxers or briefs when in bed.

Your neighbors would also be asked to answer few questions but only to verify that you are being seen under the address.
So over all , with some preparations and reading you could pull it off.

Also don't forget that if she has children by other people and something happens to her, then they own a percentage of her ownership. Now she might be your best friend and soul mate, but they, or their partners through them, might make your life a living hell and legally take from you all you have in Poland.

um you would need to know really intimate details about her if you do get questioned like the colour of her knickers and the date of her last period. Just saying.

You'll be fine as long as she's willing to have sex with you.

It's quite common in Poland at wedding ceremonies to still have a 'bedding' ceremony at the end of the night
It's a bit like Game of Thrones, the books at least.

date of her last period

Yes, this is important imformation. People such as Jarek Kaczynski can knock on your door one day and ask such questions. They need to know how fertile the women are and that they can be relied on to produce children. Otherwise they are shunned from society and sent to places like Sosnowice, Chorzow or Bytom.

What 'legal issues'? You already have the right to legally buy a flat. You do not need to be an EU citizen to buy a flat in Poland.

Getting married and then buying a flat is a terrible idea: your wife will own half of the flat.

What are the chances of getting caught?

Fair to middling, over the long term. As has been pointed out, the fact that you're white and American helps a lot, but you're still talking about committing a crime which results in jail time.

And how strict is the process?

Lots of questions that you haven't thought of but you will know if you actually live as man & wife (who is on which side of the bed, what colour is the duvet today, etc).

She's my closest friend, so we could easily act like a couple when in the process.

What happens when you meet somebody that you want to be more than just friends with? She's going to be cool about you loudly banging some chick in the flat which she calls home? Seriously?

For starters John, I wouldn't have stated my name, nationality and location on a public forum associated with the question above.... You never know who's watching.
