hi, I lived in Poland for 5 years, and then went for graduate studies abroad, now I'm back. Is it possible that I be successful should I apply for permanent residency or citizenship?

The place to find out the answers to our questions is your local Wydział do spraw obywatelskich i cudzoziemców at your local Urząd wojewódzki, not on some internet forum. No one here can answer questions like that.

I think that you should have done it before leaving for graduate studies abroad, because one of conditions for permanent staying permit is that you've been staying and working continuously for 5 years in Poland. You broke the continuity by leaving the country. Requirements for citizenship are even more strict. But I would suggest you to ask here: migrant and perhaps consult an immigration lawyer.

Merged: Acquiring Polish citizenship for EU nationals residing in Poland

I have a question about the requirements to obtain Polish citizenship for EU nationals (British) residing in Poland.

The law says residing in Poland for at least 3 years on the basis of permanent resident permit or long-term resident permit, but I guess it's for non-EU nationals.

Since EU nationals can reside in Poland on the basis of freedom of movement, I want to be clear about the requirements as the law is not very clear about it.

Any EU nationals had experience of acquiring Polish citizenship?

Are you married to a Pole? Do you do specialised work? Or, are you rich:)))

Any of these three would negate the need to go begging for Polish citizenship. I have lived here for 23 years, and they can shove their citizenship where the sun doesn't shine.

Sorry you have had a bad experience Doug, I am not being sarcastic.

a bad experience

Not really. This poster is flooding the site with begging letters about how to get citizenship? I fail to understand what Polish citizenship gives you, unless you are rich, and into speculating.

What is his panic? I answered him, and then he opens another thread. I think he needs to see a shrink, not a lawyer.

I had no idea why my original post was merged here and why Dougpol1 was so rude.

I asked that because I want to keep my EU citizenship and rights of freedom of movement after Brexit. I know not many EU nationals applied Polish citizenship and also the law was not very clear. I want to hear from someone who had such experience of applying Polish citizenship as EU nationals.

But nothing changes. Get a Right of Abode card if you want - Stalyt Pobyt).
The Poles can't tell you to leave, like the UK can't tell them to leave.
I am more worried about the weather forecast for the weekend. There is no risk from Brexit for freedom of movement, especially when you have already "moved"; nobody knows what is going to happen, but the politicians and the lawyers will be kept very busy and everybody in government will earn handsome overtime..........

If you are worried about investment, go on and buy that house or whatever. This is not communism - nobody is going to repossess it. Only the banks can do that:)))

You answer does not help. If UK want to control EU migrates after Brexit, then there will be no freedom of movement for British citizens.

I'm a professional who do jobs all over Europe. Freedom of movement is very important. I would rather to have a Polish passport than a British passport. I also don't consider myself as British citizen but European citizen. If my EU citizenship is taken out against my will, I will need a new country such as Poland to keep my rights.

Polish citizenship - Karta pobytu or "Zaświadczenie o zarejestrowaniu pobytu obywatela unii europejskiej"

Hi all,
I read similar cases in this forum, but didn't found exactly mine:
I live in Poland from 9 years with wife and 2 kids regular work for all this time,
For these 9 years I did everything (agreements, jobs, credit, bank accounts ....) through a document titled:
"Zaświadczenie o zarejestrowaniu pobytu obywatela unii europejskiej", which i think is not Karta Pobytu,

my question: am I eligible for the Polish Citizenship ? or do I need Karta Pobytu issued from minimum 3 years ?

thanks a lot !
