hmm what are caribean food specialties, ? have never seen a caribiean restaurant anywhere in the world

A lot of chicken and fish. Rice & beans feature highly too.

Tends to be spicy and sweet (coconut, chilli, brown sugar/honey, thyme, ginger etc etc) It's really nice - if done properly, like anything else.

They are not common, but not rare either - there are at least two that I know of in Dublin for a start and Dublin is a very minor city in European terms.

Dublin maybe minor in Europe but well the only city in Poland that can compare to Dublin is Warsaw - I don't think there is room for a Carribean restaurant anywhere else in Poland (maybe Kraków because of tourists - but they come to Poland to have some taste of Poland too (literally))

Are you sure though? I thought Indians were quite popular - it's not the same thing I know, but I would imagine that those open to Indian cuisine would also be open to Caribbean. It's actually much less foreign/exotic in many ways.

Indian is popular exactly because it is so outworldly exotic for Poles - I don't think Carribean would be similarily popular outside of a really big city - in Poland there is only one really big city that aspires to be cosmopolitan - this is Warsaw (ok maybe Wrocław is aspriring to be cosmpolitan too) - but well you see Carribean culture is not Indian culture - so the appeal is much much lower

Which Caribbean?

Ango-Caribbean? Gallo-Caribbean? Hispano-Caribbean?

If this is Jamaican there was a Jamaican take out place where I used to live.

They had something called they called loafs (loaves?) which were pierogi-shaped yeasty rolls with cheese, meat or meat and cheese filling. I could eat the meat and cheese loafs three times a day and not get tired of them.

I also like Jamaican baked goods, bulla bread and fruitcake.

Someone I know was thinking about this - I'm not sure if he still is.

Such a restaurant would need huge capital outlay for shiny new high-profile premises, as well as a big marketing budget and money to see it through the first year. There have been a lot of restaurants in Warsaw that have come and gone because their concept was unfamiliar and they opened on a shoestring.

If you are not Polish, I would suggest working at a restaurant first to see how reality works. As for Caribbean, I heard of Salsa Libre at Solec 38 which may be a club or restaurant.

I'm curious as to wether you followed through with you Caribbean idea here in Warsaw... as I am interested in doing something similar in the next few years, but Cajun/Creole.

What have your experiences have been?
