Are European Union Funds available for people wanting to start a new business? I'm based in Poland.

Hey guys,

I've recently moved to Poland and I'm currently unemployed.
I'm thinking to open a Coffee Shop in the city where I live. Does anyone knows if is any possibility to get support from European Union for unemployed people who want to open a new business?

Has anyone done this before?

I'm an European Union citizen.

They do exist however they're notoriously hard to get and the terms and conditions can be discouraging. Also the amounts are finite and oversubscribed. The best thing is to visit their office on Marszalkowska, a few doors from pl. Unii Lubelski and make an appointment to discuss it. If you're in Wawa that is - otherwise it would be your regional office.

Maybe it is the usual - who you know. My wife has several friends who all started a 'business' and got 20,000PLN with the only stipiulation that they had to maintain the business for 1 year. Loan did not have to be repaid. She is applying for her brother to start his 'business'. He is 60 year old, unemployed. If EU still has money for Poland in next 5 year cycle, I may have to start a 'business' too.

Apparently they are but is a minus if you can't speak polish. I will try to apply for opening a new business soon so maybe I will come with new info.

thats true.
There is even government funding, which is slightly different from EU funding and more straightforward. Usually you will receive this fund within 2 months. For EU fund, you might have to wait for several months and your might have to go on training and all that.

Mine too. As I am still going through these procedures and stuff - but for Govt funds as the EU one is too complicated! Although, I am still like miles away from completing all the steps.

Are this funds available for unemployed people wanting to start a business or for employees too?
Are this available for foreigners or just for Polish people?

I'm not sure who I owe a drink too, but if I go for this scheme I'll probably buy you both some beers or designer coffees! No one bothered to mention this to me before. It could make all the difference -- obviously.

This is for unemployed people in Poland who wish to start a business they go on a course are taught how to write a business plan and the basics of running a business, if your plan is approved and you come out the other side which 90% do you will get just below 20,000 PLN as seed capital.

I assume this is not available to non-Poles. But anyway, would you happen to know how long the person has to be unemployed? And if EU aliens (if that's the word, not sure) are eligible on the same terms I'd be surprised, but please put me straight if we are.

I guess that would depend if you are registered unemployed, EU funding for start up business is available for non Polish EU residents, as I know people who have successfully applied.

A tricky question now...I can really speak so how can I go to this business class? :(

Might be yes. Registered unemployed in Poland- the rule might apply. But I am not 100% sure though. ill try to get more info
