The Germans and Austrians will open their labor market fully to Poles this year. Will this be a hit to Poland's economic growth?

No only improve it, there is no where near enough jobs here and what there is usually pay terrible money. I know a few Poles that will be heading west straight away. Hopefully a few hundred thousand will leave the UK for Germany and Austria as well.

Rather south !

Hopefully a few hundred thousand will leave the UK for Germany and Austria as well.

You mean all of them?

Germany is asking in Spain already for skilled workers who speak German, so the Poles will be more than welcome :)

The Government tries to avoid the errors it made in the fifties and sixties.

I don't think that much will change. Blue collar workers are already over working under the table. White collar workers don't have a problem getting a work permit. Don't see anything earth shaking happening in May.

Is it true Germany has a deal with Pakistan for skilled work? In the IT sector or something. I think I read something about this. Geez... paki's in Germany.

Would agree on that one. Maybe just the proportions blue/white collar will change, but overall rather no.

Is it true Germany has a deal with Pakistan for skilled work? In the IT sector or something. I think I read something about this. Geez... paki's in Germany.

Former SPD chancelor Schröder started the inniciative green cards for IT experts from India etc...yes, this is just the follow up.
Obviously Germany needs quality people more than ever ;)

The Government tries to avoid the errors it made in the fifties and sixties.

What mistakes? It was the desperate need of simple work power after WWII. They did not think about any kind of selection then. That was o.k.. West Germany wanted to grow fast and did not have enough man-power because self inflicted losses in WWII.

What was stinky was the immigration policy following that time. No selection whatsoever.
That happens when politics just fish for voters.

Is it just Germany and Austria or all E.U. member states?

Where are Poles able to work now without any restrictions? Ireland, Britain...?

I think Austria and Germany are the last two countries to open their job market for Polish people - they decided to have the longest bar on Polish workforce and it just expires this May

Don't just go there to wipe asses and work on construction sites for minimum wage.

It's better to work then not to work.

Will this be a hit to Poland's economic growth?

German as a foreign language has become very popular in PL over the last few years, so I guess people have been getting themselves prepared for the opening up of labor markets in Austria and Germany. From what I read and the people I speak to, Norway and Sweden seem to be the preferred choice these days. On a side note - last week I was in Berlin and returned to PL on thursday by train, out of 4 people in my compartment one had just been to Germany for an interview in, as a specialist scientist in blue ray technologies, she had been offered a position in Frieberg, and was moving her family and dog in May 2011. Her motivation was money and more money for research.

Really!

...Eures' German branch has requested applications from Spanish engineers, medics, teachers and tourism professionals. Other skilled workers, who speak German, can also apply.

You guys have millions beyond millions of them.

No hyperbole please!

As of 2010 there are an estimated 3.5 million people of Turkish origin living in Germany.[2]

You know what's funny? I'm in Canada and have read that German immigration to Canada is increasing. Has been increasing in the last ten years or so. Vancouver apparently has a growing German/Austrian community.

We got Mother Teresa from Calcutta over here, yes invite every starving ************ to Europe you'll be paying taxes to feed their ugly ass kids while your roads and benefits will be neglected, if you think they'd do the same for you, you need to slap yourself a couple times. PennBoy, you don't live here.

If you did, you'd know that ZUS is desperately underfunded - and we could potentially see another 250k taxpayers leave for Germany in May. That's a disaster - and what else do you propose?

The fact that you don't even pay Polish taxes means that you simply aren't fit to comment on this.

What makes you think that there is so many jobs available in Germany and Austria ?
Many migrant Poles all over the EU have found themselves unemployed.
What do you mean, " terrible money " ? Don,t you listen to the news and Polish press, how great the Polish economy is, and how employment is on the increase, not to mention the rise in wages. Why should anyone want to leave ?

None will leave the UK, they wouldn,t get better welfare anywhere else. Especially Poland.
It,s all political bullshit, so anyone discussing the topic on here is just wasting their time.
It,s all to do with the free movement of people, pi55ing off other people whose jobs are being taken and the tax payers getting pi55ed off aswell subsidizing spongers. Wont be long before the riots start in europe. It was a better europe when people stayed within their own borders, did their own jobs and hence aided their own economies.

So - how many Polish people claim British welfare benefits?

It was a better europe when people stayed within their own borders, did their own jobs and hence aided their own economies.

Really? I'd like to see some empirical evidence for this.

We have a boom in Germany right now....

bloomberg/news/2011-03-01/germany-s-unemployment-shrinks-three-times-as-fast-as-economists-estimated.html

...Companies in Germany plan to hire as many as 300,000 workers this year, according to a survey of 28,000 firms by the DIHK industry and trade chambers group this month. Machine and electrical companies may add 80,000 jobs, the DIHK said.

Expansion by companies in Germany's southern regions may already be crimped by a shortage of skilled labor. A January IHK industry and trade chamber poll of 3,800 companies in Bavaria showed that some 41 percent of local companies were failing to recruit skilled staff.

In January, the Labor Agency announced a 10-point plan through to 2025 to reduce shortages of skilled labor as regional offices reported 374,000 vacancies in technology as well as health and service sectors such as hotels and catering.

What makes you think Poland can offer skilled workers, when they haven,t trainned their own people because of lack of jobs. You can,t substitute experience with a piece of paper. Every country have their own uni grads without adequate job vacancies. The truth is that the jobs available will be the menial unskilled crap that no one wants to do.

So - how many Polish people claim British welfare benefits?

You again !
Well, of the Poles I know in the UK, and that,s considerably many, I would say 90% are currently unemployed, hence claiming benefits.

Really? I'd like to see some empirical evidence for this.

From my own personal experience of travelling around Europe some 15 years ago, to present day, various nationalities were less resentful to foreigners. Now you only have to speak with a eastern european accent to be tarred with the same brush and get labelled as " f,ing Pole " or " polnisch schwein ".

And don,t deny this Mr Bratwurst because I have heard this with my own ears. ( not once )

What makes you think Poland can offer skilled workers, when they haven,t trainned their own people because of lack of jobs.

Lack of jobs where? Last time I checked, the "Big 5" cities (Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw, Troj-miasto, Krakow) all had more or less 0% unemployment. There's certainly no lack of skilled workers in these cities - many of whom have a grasp of German. And don't forget - Polish skilled workers will be cheaper than German ones. I know that already, the Germans are looking at stealing a lot of accountancy-trained graduates.

Well, of the Poles I know in the UK, and that,s considerably many, I would say 90% are currently unemployed, hence claiming benefits.

How do you know they're receiving benefits? Have you seen their award letters? You might want to consider that Poles currently cannot claim any benefits without a year's work under the WRS - and even then, it's a tricky process for them.

I've never seen any evidence that Poles are claiming benefits in the UK on any large scale.

Now you only have to speak with a eastern european accent to be tarred with the same brush and get labelled

But how does that mean Europe is worse? A few comments from some idiots doesn't mean things are worse.

BB how many German-born Germans live and work abroad ??

A lot. Germans are all over the place, especially in areas such as disaster relief and international aid. It's a credit to them that you never really hear about them either.

Delphie we all talked it over via PM, and decided to go about this like the Universities do, we're inviting you to leave...

We? Who is "we"? Is this you and your traitorous father again?

It's no surprise that your father won't come back - we don't like communist, traitorous scum here. There's certainly no place in Poland for a man who built weapons for the Warsaw Pact to use against her own citizens.

the "Big 5" cities

Typical Polish way of thinking. The cities, be it one or ten does not make up the entire country. Often poles refer to London as being England. Look a bit further.

There's certainly no lack of skilled workers in these cities - many of whom have a grasp of German.

If their grasp of German is anything like their grasp of English, then god help the Germans. When you mention skilled. In what industries ?, or do you consider that all these skilled Polish workers will walk straight into office jobs.

Have you seen their award letters?

Maybe they should show me what colour underpants they wear.

A few comments from some idiots

Firstly it,s not a few, and second, their grieviances are fully founded. People don,t become resentful for no reason, otherwise they would be as you say " idiots ".

Get a grip delph, if Ukrainians, Belarusians, etc started to influx Poland, how do you think the Poles would feel ?
