Have a Polish drivers licence for one year. And 16 points already. How bad is it?

I'm foreigner living in Poland. Just had 16 points on my driving license, and the bad news is my license in less than 1 yr old. I got the license in Jan 2010. I want to know how bad this is for me, if my license will be taken away from me or i have to write another exam.. I will appreciate any/every info on this asap...thanks

I don't have any info but here's some advice - learn to drive properly.

Sounds like you'd be perfect for Polish roads.

The lucky number is 21. When you reach it, you're done with driving and must repeat exam (or if you have a longer break - also a driving course).

But before that, you can reduce the number of penalty points by signing up for a special course about safety and road accidents (if nothing changed from the time I heard about it a few years ago it costed around 300 PLN). This course takes away 6 points. No more than two (if my sources were good) such courses can be taken in a year. Also if you manage to drive responsibly (to which I strongly urge you) for a year - the points are erased. Poland has badly designed and poor quality roads so the only thing you can count on is you driving safely bearing those facts in mind.

If it's EU, certainly.

Possible but highly unlikely. If you get done for drink driving (and are a long way over) or charged with causing death by dangerous driving, the police take your licence and send it to the British embassy.

Yep. If they catch you driving when over the points limit, then they'll seize the licence and prosecute you for driving while banned. The licence will then be returned to the home country, with a note saying that they've been banned from driving. Driving bans are (in theory) respected throughout the EU, EEA and CH - though there's no effective system as of yet to actually track these.
