How can I get Polish citizenship after been married to a Polish spouse

I am a foreigner residing in Gorzow,Poland and married with a polish citizens for a year and 8 months our marriage was outside Poland in Brazil.

Presently i am expecting a baby in few months time.
I posses a temporary residence for one year which I used to applied for my entry visa to Poland it will expire in 2 months time. I have already applied for another temporary residence to extend my stay in Poland.

MY QUESTION IS: How long will it take me to get a Polish citizenship? Please feed me with details.

As far as I know there is no automatic process to get Polish citizenship. Every application has to be reviewed and approved by the president personally. Meaning by L.K. :(

Not sure that's true I asked the local government in Warsaw and they said you can obtain "permanent residence" card or "stałe pobytu" after 3 years of living together, but it requires an "iterrogation" so they can be sure you're legit. That is NOt citizenship which is something you arguably can apply for, but I'm uncertain from information I recevied if it is actually possible. For sure the permamanent karta pobytu is better than the 1-year temporary one. It's a lot of waiting to get it.

A friendly tip: Get your marriage Brazilian marriage registered in Poland. This is done either through the Polish Embassy in Brazil or through the authorities in Poland.

It's three years minimum.

There's also a good chance that a Polish language requirement will be brought in sooner rather than later, so I advise you to learn Polish now.

Well the simple answer is!

You are eligible for the Polish Citizenship after three years of marriage and two years of continuous living in Poland.

That means if you are married to a Polish National and you live in Poland legally for two years. You are eligible for citizenship but you can only apply after getting the permanent residence card, which you acquire only after 3 years.

So in total you can be a polish citizen in 3 and half months after your marriage.

Please also note that you must not travel outside Poland for more than 6 months in a year in that stay of two years.

You have to have been in a marriage to a Polish citizen for at least 3 years and have been living in Poland for 2 years by virtue of a residence permit for a fixed period.

This doesn't mean just legal stay. If you are living here on a visa you must apply as soon as possible for a 'Residence permit for a fixed period of time'. Also you will have to have your wedding recognised and also obtain a Polish birth certificate.

I'm not sure how you get the wedding recognised. I assume it's just a case of getting a sworn translation of your wedding certificate (copy of your original wedding certificate must be less than three months old and will possibly require an Apostille stamp. You will probably be issued with a Polish wedding certificate.)

A copy of your birth certificate less than three months old will be required probably with an Apostille stamp and you will definitely be issued with a Polish birth certificate.

You can expect to be interviewed to prove that the marriage is genuine.

I was married in Poland so didn't need to get the wedding recognised (that's why I'm not certain of the procedure).

Even though I've lived here legally for over 10 years I had to obtain a 'karta stałego pobytu' but I'm from the EU so it's different for me. You definitely will need the residence permit for the fixed period of time.

Hi. Last year I married a polish girl. I am american. I'm interested in getting my polish citizenship so I can have access to EU countries.

My first question is
1. Does having a polish citizenship allow me access to live anywhere in EU. Is there any real benefit of getting a polish citizenship for my status living in other EU countries, or am I better off just applying directly.

I would want to live somewhere in EU not for work or school, but just to live since I have an online business that I can travel with.

So, how much did she charge you? Do you get a refund if the whole EU thing doesn't work out?

Five years in Poland on permanent resident's permit (which will take about a year to get) before you qualify for a Polish passport. And then about another year to get it. Plus the possibility of having to give up one's US passport (not that that last bit will bother the original poster).

my fiance looked into this, they told her that after we get married, we'd have to live in poland for another 2 years before I would be elligable for citizenship. granted, I already have over 3.5 years of residence in Poland, don't know if that makes any diffference. i never really looked into it that deeply because we're leaving for the USA next year and I can always come back and visit with my American passport, but if you don't spend time in-country, you won't get it just being married to a Polish national.

You can live anywhere in europe if you are with your wife, you dont need Polish citizenship, unless...

Not really. As an American I can apply for Polish citizenship, and if granted, I can retain my US citizenship and passport unless:

1. I serve in the armed forces of Poland. Not gonna happen. I'm an old f*rt and did my thing in the US Marines for 12 years.

2. Vote in Polish elections. OK, I won't, but this one p*sses me off. If I choose to live here-and I do-I'd like to have a say in who leads the country. Oh well. I can live with this even if I don't like it.

The real irony is that I can then get a Polish passport which would enable me to live and work in any EU country. So what? I'm going to stay in Poland, even though I speak French, some Italian and a little Spanish. Poland is my chosen home.
