May be best to start with words that don't sound funny for a foreigner (who cannot hear the same as a native Polish speaker; same applies to a Pole listening to, let's say, Greek language).

Poles speak fast in short bursts as if speaking was a source of physical discomfort to be avoided.
I have been watching Netflix 1983. Eventually, I had to turn on the English subtitles.

More so for men rather than women, I find. Perhaps this is the reason why in my experience, nearly every Polish teacher I've ever met (with the one exception of an openly gay man) has been female:-)

As in many societies, it's a macho thing.

Here, they mumble. In some movies, it's so unnatural that it looks forced and deliberate as if they were afraid to be overheard. Pisses the hell out of me and the TV goes off.

Polish men do tend to seemingly enunciate less clearly for me as a foreigner than women, and that's a fact.
Normally, I watch Polish movies without subtitles any longer, that is, for at least eight or nine years now.
When men speak amongst one another, I really have to cock my ear to make sure that I caught everything:-)

On the other hand, when I was watching an older classic, "Knife in the Water" from around '64, the Leon Niemczyk character
I understood more easily than the female character who played the sportswriter's girl friend.

I like that series...but I think it's called 1984 not 1983. One of the few shows on Netflix that don't have pro race mixing pro homo agendas

I started and stopped when Leon acted like a complete moron and picked up a stranger. That would never, ever happen to me and have zero tolerance for the movies where stupidity is the main character.

Depressing, boring, in an alternate reality that never happened, and shot like in a basement where the sun never reaches. You know, art. Yeah.

Now, I see the world through my Americanized eyes. That means I don't trust anybody and anything. I remember taking trains from Radom to Warsaw all by myself when I was 9 to visit my parents. Today, here, we watch our kids when they take garbage to the curb.
