When to use "tej samej" as opposed to "tego samego"?? Thanks!
tej samej versus tego samego
the form you use has to agree gender-wise with the object it's qualifying.
Idę do tego samego psa
nienawidzę tego samego chłopaka
wychodzę z tego samego budynku
idę do tej samej pani
wsadziłem kurczaka do tej samej wody (woda - feminine)
poleciałem do tej samej planety (planeta - feminine)
at least that how it seems to me

Merged: why is tej samej and not tego samego ?
te telefony komorkowe sa ... " tej samej/tego samego ? " wielkosci , ale roznych kolorow ??
i thought because telefony komorkowe ends with an e it would be a Tego samego , and then i thought well maybe it goes off of the telefony which ends in y but that would mean its male and it should still be tego samego .. if i am understanding this page / chart from the slavic website you guys keep posting up , i know its a bit crushed but it says female is tej . but im obviously understanding somehting wrong . hope you can help .
Demonstrative and Relative Pronouns
Polish does not have indefinite and definite articles analogous to English (a, an, the). One
concludes from the context whether or not a given noun is definite or indefinite. Thus,
stół may mean either "a table" or "the table." Often placement in a sentence will translate
to "the" (initial position) or "a" (final position): Stół stoi w kącie (The table is standing
in the corner), vs. W kącie stoi stół (In the corner is standing a table). Definiteness may
be stressed by using the demonstrative pronoun ten ta to (this, that). Both demonstrative
and relative pronouns have full case-and-number declensions.
ten ta to this, that (Demonstrative Pronoun)
Masc. Neut. Fem. Masc. Pers. Pl. Other. Pl.
N ten to ta ci te
G tego tego tej tych tych
D temu temu tej tym tym
A =N/G =N tę =G =N
I tym tym tą tymi tymi
L tym tym tej tych tych
Final ę in tę is not denasalized. Colloquially, tę is often pronounced tą.

" telefony komórkowe "
1) it's plural
2) noun + adjective
tej samej wielkości:
the same size
this group of words is all Genitive and tej samej in in feminine form because wielkość is feminine
różnych kolorów
different colours
in Genitive , in plural , colour is not personal.

Feminine nouns usually end in -a: For example: kobieta (ko-bye-ta) (woman), gazeta
(ga-ze-ta) (newspaper) and Polska (pol-ska) (Poland). A few feminine nouns end in -i,
such as pani (pa-n'ee) (Mrs) and sprzedawczyni (spshe-daf-chih-n'ee) (sales assistant) ???
wielkosci ends in i yes .. but you have put ...... wielkość in your reply , i imagine because this is the nomittive/dictionary form of the word ?

in Nominative its wielkość , and as miłość (love), radość(joy, happiness) wysokość(height) szerokość(width) długość(length), jasność (brightness) ciemność (darkness) its feminine
Id say most nouns that end in "ść" and describe abstract ideas are feminine. ( many translate to -ness in English) (But it's Polish, proceed with caution)

Occasionally, a word of
masculine gender can be used as a nickname, slang term, or an ad hoc means
of referring to a female. In such instances, one usually follows grammatical
gender, although reference by natural gender may also be encountered. Thus,
˚uczek Bug used as a girl's slang nickname will most often take masculine
agreement.

The gender of
nouns ending in a functionally soft consonant must be determined individually.
For example, mysz mouse is feminine, while kosz basket is masculine.
Such nouns may occasionally cause indecision for Poles themselves.

from that site that was cited few treads ago
I tried to recall other examples, and there are ones ending with c (noc-night) cz (klacz- female horse) ń ( jesień - autumn) źń (przyjaźń- friendship) ć (nić-thread) dź (szadź- hard rime)
As is said above , proceed with caution.
s0oooo basically there is no set rule , like theres the " exception to the rule " but you poles are taking the **** now ...
on a serious note i will look out for any nouns ending with a letter with a litte stick above them .. and then i will besically guess i think and then try and remember .
