So an you a speak a mostly an English a with an your a wife? in Poland? nice, I don't want to be rude but I have a strange feeling she could be other version of Justysia but more mature. I could understand this if she practise English but from what you have wrote it looks not that way. Another Pole who don't want to be Pole? No wonder you don't speak Polish
have a sip - Chcesz łyka?
Because it's a finite verb. It has a subject (I) and tense (present) while infinitives don't have subjects on their own or tense. Most of the time in English the bare infinitive and the
"I just randomly pick a tense"
I = subject
just = adverb (modifying the verb or the following adverb there's more than one way to analyze that)
randomly = derived adverb (also modifying the verb)
pick = verb, 'simple present' tense
a tense = object

She speaks Polish to me and I reply in English. What's so hard to understand about that?
I was talking about the actual appearance of the word, mafketis. It's an important lesson for a student not to judge solely on that basis. I put that it was actually the present simple above.

wow, you re-edited your previous post and now added that she speaks Polish to you. Sometimes you are very close to Wroclaw Boy
Eh, no, that was there before. No re-editing involved at all (edit). I edited because I made a spelling mistake. I make mistakes, unlike your errors. I said she 'uses Polish' in the initial post and haven't changed that at all.
WB rethinks his posts, what's wrong with that? Your posts are hardly works of art after the first attempt.

5 years in Poland and speak no Polish, that's a great achievement, congratulation teacher, you can teach people but can not teach yourself?. Staying in foreign country with foreign wife and speak to her in English, how rude.
You are getting more ignorant with every post. I wrote above that I am fairly fluent and that meetings are conducted in Polish at my school. Important things that I MUST understand. Let me guess, you think I edited that too?! Chump!
I use Polish with her too. It just depends on my mood. When I'm with her family, I always use Polish and she leaves me with them for some time. I wouldn't use English as they'd feel left out and that'd be unfair.
Ask other native speakers of English the same and they'll likely say what I said. It's all about time and place. I'm not allowed to use Polish in my job, therefore I think in English. I was taught to communicate in English through my whole schooling, I see the world and communicate that way. I have no obligation to learn Polish yet I have and use it outwith school as and when I see fit. She likes listening to English and I can help her. What can you offer, chump? A silly mistakes? ROTFL.

Can't help but wonder what your point is, Tit. And what business of yours it is what language Seanus is speaking to his wife. His Polish seems to be good enough, which can hardly be said about your English. Are you bored or something?
Are you bored or something?
Yes something.
If he speaks or even try speak Polish that's fine.
Heck, I even throw in some Japanese from time to time as she was a keen student of it. I was there for 2 years and picked it up to a communicative level after being there for around a year. My friends Yoko and Hideki would gladly vouch for that. Yes, a language spoken by 125 million people. Let's get to the point. The point is that some use Maltese to speak and that's their right to do so. However, they'd likely use English when the right times came around.
Am I rude by teaching her Japanese for free? Am I rude for giving her turns of phrase in English? Am I rude for not shouting out to everyone near me, 'hey, I can tell you exactly what I'm reading about in a Polish newspaper?'. Don't presume what people know and don't know!
TIT, and if I didn't? Maybe she wants me to speak only English to her, how do you know?

But he's said it already, many times.
All this over one mistaken word ending. I think I'd better give up speaking Polish as I make mistakes all the time.
Seanus, you must have got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning, you've spat the dummy out big time over this. It was a bit of an ignorant attack on you though and to make the assumption that you haven't learnt Polish because your'e capable of making a simple mistake is a bit stupid ........

The master of reflection didn't acknowledge that, though. I think he's had a few sips too many of jabol or bimber
I did so because, as Ziemowit said, there are plenty of resources on this forum and threads that have already addressed this point. I took the bait but it's all for a bit of spice. I'm not like that in class and in normal interpersonal relations. Besides, it gave me a laugh and we all need to laugh from time to time.

I think the general rule on this forum as well as on other forums is not to correct someone else's mistakes, unless it is in the special context like the one here where people ask for advice or correction. It is impolite to correct the English language of a non-native person who gives advice. Likewise, it is impolite to criticize the Polish language of a non-Polish person who has a command of the language and expresses his or her views on a particular grammatical problem or usage of Polish in Polish (in other words, when that person presents himself as a "teacher" and not as a "learner" as is the case of Seanus here).
It is precious to receive advice on language, but we must consider first if a person is really asking for it. If not, it is best to avoid any unfavorable comment on that person's language abilities.

That seems like a fair summary. I made a simple mistake and even the best make them. The important thing is to learn from them and not argue tooth&nail that you are right. I'm not a robot and learning is a distinctive process. Now, I'll have a sip of my beer :)
Never heard during your 5 years stay 'chcesz łyka'?. Even in pub or home?
Been in Poland 5 years, never heard it. I'm all with Seanus on this one! I have taken almost 400 hours of Polish lessons since I arrived, and still not able to utter 5 sentences in a row...
There you go, TIT. I haven't taken anything like 400 hours of lessons. I got lessons for free from my first teaching school but I can count on two hands how many hours I have formally learned. I took 8 in total and just the basics yet I can put together sentences better than some Poles I've heard.
You are still trying to explain that you were right, even need some English speaking person to back you up. Guilty as charged?
Again, more and more ignorant. Everything has been said above. Why do you persist with your childish digs and backtalking ways. What backup? He said his piece and I said mine.

I'm sure Seanus tries to speak Polish more than many other foreigners in Poland.
We all do mistakes from time to time.
I haven't heard many Poles speak a foreign language without any errors (that includes people who lived abroad).

TIT, they don't even know you so don't take it personally. They are just words. Any contributions to the thread?
True enough, SwedeinPoland. I make mistakes, many Poles I teach commit errors as they are unaware that they are wrong.
