Polish vs Russian: Which language sounds cooler?

Weird question, I know. Both Polish and Russian sound very cool imo. When I hear either of these languages, they kinda remind me of those counter strike games for some reason. But I think Russian sounds cooler....the way it sounds and everything... It kinda gives off that cool "military vibe". Polish too but to a lower extent. Which language sounds cooler to you.

Prefer the sound of Russian. So does my husband, who's Polish. He says that when he was a child he loved listening to the Russian women in the market near his home. There are many similarities but Russian sounds more musical to me.

Yeah, it is more musical. I always liked the sound of Russian language, it sounds more versatile than Polish and has a melody to it that is stronger than Polish.

Dunno about cooler or warmer (never use such terms), but Polish is more pleasant sounding and far more sophisticated. To many Poles Russian sounds primitive and peasanty as in "ja paszoł, on paszoł". In some Polish peasant dialects uneducated people also forget the endings and likewise say "ja poszedł, on poszedł, "my byli, wy byli, oni byli" instead of using the proper endings: "ja poszedłem, on poszedł, byliśmy, byliście, byli". In English it would be roughly comparable to "me go, he go".

Not to mention some vulgar-sounding word choice: Ona otkryła guby (reminds Poles of gęba) i skazała: u menia nasmork (the Russian way of saying "I've got a cold" but to Poles it sounds like she's full of snot).

Although I began with Russian, I've always felt Polish to be a more melodic language than the former. Russian sounds like the oozing of a viscous river, Polish like birds chirping, what with its cadences and occasional nasals:-)

In many ways Russian sounds cock-eyed and ridiculous to native speakers of Polish. When a Russian wants to remember something he uses zapomnit' which in Polish means to forget. Russians drink coffee out of a czaszka (skull in Polish). A Russian bed krovat' sounds like a men's tie, and a karandash (pencil) reminds Poles of a calendar. Utka (duck in Rsusian) sounds like thighs in Polish -- kurze udka (chicken thighs). And kit in Polish is putty or nonsense but in Russian it means whale. In Polsih rodzina measn fmaiyl but in Russian rodina = motherland. Familia in Polish is another word for family but in Russian it means surname.

And vice versa of course. Actually more often than not any particular slavic language, especially in its more formal vocabulary, sounds ridiculous to speakers of other slavic languages.

We all have our cross to bear, gumi! Some of us simply make more of a point about it, that's all:-)

He is saying that on purpose just to provoke although I agree with him on that one that Russian is melodious and Polish can be ugly with all those "szcz" sounds especially if you are living in Poland for 21 years retard who still doesn't understand it, then you simply prefer talking to your dog, he will not reply to you in English but at least he won't reply to you in Polish either :-)

Russian sound more beautiful sung than spoken. Polish sounds beautiful when either spoken OR sung!

Of course, Polish is not ... ugly (no language is) as Doug says but Russian does sound very nice. Russian sounds like bird's chirping and sounds smooth whereas Polish sounds "harsh". Russian is one of the languages sounding nice to almost everybody no matter their native language. Polish may sound nicer than Russian only to Polish speakers.

I speak some Russian mainly due to my father spending time in a Russian prison, must admit I never thought of it in terms of being nice or chirpy melodious

@Dolno: because of your background, you cannot look at Russian and at Russia in an objective manner. Yes, Russian is generally considered a beautiful sounding language. I personally have never heard anyone thinking the opposite and I have never head anyone thinking thinking Polish sounds nice... It seems to me that Russian is not as "consonant" as Polish is and as a result smoother and more melodious.

Inpolska you are right "you cannot look at Russian and at Russia in an objective manner" I never will, hey but I hope future generations will move on.

@Dolno: for sure and we can read it in your messages! It is normal and I'm sure it'll take several generations. To some (lesser) extent same for my maternal family escaping from 2 European dictatorships.
