My husband and I are having our first child, a baby boy! I really like the name Mikołaj and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a nickname. I started calling him Miko, but I'm not sure if there is another name associated with Mikołaj. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Haha... no Mickey D's.

Preferably Polish. My husband is from Poland, and we live in the US. It's important to me to raise him with as much Polish culture as we can :-)

That's lovely! What are their names?

Do you visit Poland much? I went three years ago before I got married. When the baby is born, I will take him to meet his family there :-)

[Moved from]: Does anyone know what "nutkja" means? Danuta?

All I know is that it was a nickname for my great-great grandmother and I haven't been able to find any meaning for it.

Word like 'nutkja' doesn't exist in polish language. Maybe you meant 'nutka', a diminutive of word 'nuta', whitch means 'tune/melody'. But it also can be a short form of feminine names like e.g.: Danuta (Danuta -> Danutka), Anna (Anna->Anutka).
