I want to learn Polish. Where to start?

Polish is actually much easier to learn than English. I learned what little I know when I went to live with a friend in Poland for five months. It helps to be surrounded by it and hear it often, so definitely get some audio materials and books. After you have learned a bit, you will be surprised at how quickly you pick it up.

Polish is definitely not much easier to learn that English. That's just plain false! No offence, but you likely learned the basics which can be easy. The rest of what you wrote was spot on though.

Hello :)
I'm native speaker of Polish. I could try to teach Polish and I would like to improve my English, too. If you want to learn Polish, we can arrange some conversation with Skype. I would like to try this method of e-learning, so if you too, please send me your Skype ID on PM. I will confirm conversation by PM or Skype. I wait for willing to conversate in Polish and English.

Greetings :)

Being a native Polish speaker isn't enough to teach the language unfortunately. It's better to find a professional teacher and pay them.

Sorry, but if someone want to have some free practice, I think that is enough to say that I know Polish grammar very well. I expect the same from the English native speaker. He/she doesn't have to be a teacher like you :) Finally title of this thread is "I want to learn Polish", but not "I'm looking for graduated teacher".

Obviously my offer is still up-to-date and free :)
Greetings :)

Oh I am not a Polish teacher. I'm a native, I speak high standard Polish. I tried teaching Polish and I found it very difficult.

How about GG, Magda? I know Polish pretty well but can give little pointers about English if you wish. You could say it's in the blood as I'm an English teacher.

I tend to use my hotmail account for more official correspondence. I find GG more natural but I don't know your level.

She wants to learn English and not, say, Turkish, nomad. Wasn't that clear?

Yeah, I was born in Scotland. I sent you a test message but I'd prefer GG if you could hook it up somehow :)

Please let me know when you have written sth, Magda, and I'll check. Please let me know how much you want to be corrected. If I am clear on that, it'll be much easier.

i found that , it seems like classical Latin where verbs can change depending on the sentence involved

i feel i may be able to speak before i can write , however French it seemed it was the other way around

if you have the money Rosetta stone is a good bet there's a free trial too

I would never think that so many foreigners wanna learn polish!

A lot of people originally from other countries on this forum live here and many need to speak Polish far more often than they speak their first language!

Hello everyone.

I am a Polish teacher. I teach my students via skype. I am not expensive. I am trying to do my best and I am not watching on the clock to finish the lesson as fast as possible. I have a good book to learn. If you buy the same we will do first step to improve your Polish. Because of my technical background technical Polish is also available to learn.

If you wanna know me closer, please write an email.

A lot of people wanna learn polish, I think. But why? ; ) It's really hard. I am a Pole so I know what I say. Polish is very... irregular. And... polish has a difficult pronunciation.

(I hope that the message hasn't got any error/mistake...)

It's not perfect but it's pretty good ; )

Surprised at what you say though - yes, Polish seems to be difficult but the two positive things about it would seem to be:

1) It is reasonably logical - certainly more so than English. E.g. a "rule" works about 90% of the time unlike in English where it seems to be about 41% of the time.

2) Pronunciation - difficult, but consistent at least - again, unlike English. I speak very little Polish but I can read it aloud, albeit hesitantly, with reasonable confidence - and poles can understand me.
