Hi there, I'm a linguistics student in need of help from Polish speakers!
If anyone can spare 2 minutes, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me whether the following sentences are grammatical in Polish.
1. Najnowszy film kustariki naprawdę go zawiódł.
2. Jego najnowszy film naprawdę zawiódł kustarike.
3. Papuga johna wczoraj go ugryzła.
4. Jego papuga ugryzła wczoraj johna.
5. Marka piłka uderzyła go wczoraj w głowę.
6. Jego piłka uderzyła go wczoraj w głowę.

(In each case, the pronoun meaning 'his' or 'him' refers to the named person, if this changes the judgement)

none of these sentences sound truly "Polish" - as in, they are not the typical utterances of a native speaker - they sound very contrived; additionally, it is not at all clear from the context that the personal pronoun refers to the named person.

1. Najnowszy film kustariki naprawdę go zawiódł.

1. Najnowszy film Kusturicy naprawdę go zawiódł
I guess that it is about Emir Kusturica? So Kusturica - Kusturicy in genitive.

2. Jego najnowszy film naprawdę zawiódł kustarike.

Jego najnowszy film naprawdę zawiódł Kusturicę.
But if sentences 1 and 2 describe that the newest Kusturica's movie "failed" himself, the second sentence is wrong, because it basically says that Kusturica didn't like someone else movie. I would rather use rozczarować instead of zawieść and the proper sentence would be:

Kusturica jest/był rozczarowany swoim własnym najnowszym filmem.

3. Papuga johna wczoraj go ugryzła.

Ok, but remember that names should be uppercase - Johna.

4. Jego papuga ugryzła wczoraj johna.

Jego papuga? Which? John's or somoene else parrot? If John's:
Wczoraj Johna ugryzła jego własna papuga. Or translating "John was bitten by a parrot yesterday"
Wczoraj Johna ugryzła papuga.

5. Marka piłka uderzyła go wczoraj w głowę.

Little bit clumsy, but it may be ok... However in case when Marek was hit by his own ball it could be also:
Marka piłka uderzyła wczoraj jego samego w głowę.

6. Jego piłka uderzyła go wczoraj w głowę.

This sentence sounds good this time if we are talking about one person eg. Mark.

they are not the typical utterances of a native speaker

I agree. I think some of my corrections may not look great either so slightly different suggestions are welcomed ;)

Wczoraj Johna ugryzła jego własna papuga. Or translating "John was bitten by a parrot yesterday"

Enough will be:
Wczoraj Johna ugryzła jego papuga.
or you can change order:
Johna papuga wczoraj go ugryzła.
This is the most basic version.

Wczoraj Johna ugryzła papuga.

This is for any parrot. It translates:
A parrot bit John yesterday.
not:
John's parrot bit him yestarday.

"Jego papuga ugryzła wczoraj Johna" is also OK if you have been talking about somebody (meaning not John, someone else) and this person owns the parrot you are talking about.

Tom possesses many pets. His parrot bit John yesterday.
Tom posiada dużo zwierząt. Jego papuga ugryzła wczoraj Johna.

5. Marka piłka uderzyła go wczoraj w głowę.

Little bit clumsy, but it may be ok... However in case when Marek was hit by his own ball it could be also:

Have you heard about a ball that would do what it itself wants?
Marek uderzył się wczoraj piłką w głowę.
But it's still strange, I have no idea how you can hit yourself with a ball, how it might be possible. Maybe:
Marek został wczoraj uderzony jego piłką w głowę. -> Marek was yesterday hit with his ball on his head.
or the best:
Marek dostał wczoraj swoją piłką w głowę.
"Dostał czymś" coloquially means "was hit with something".

Hi there,
thank you to you all for replying. Perhaps I wasn't clear in the first place, I don't need corrections, I'm running a language experiment and only need to know if the sentences are ok or bad. Just trying to find out whether certain possesive structures are ok in polish

Thank you again,
Katie

Hey katiekustard28, let me not say anything about the first two sentences, because the verb "zawiódł" in this context is borderline grammatical, but 3-6 are fine. 3-4 are not semantically equivalent (in 4th sentence "Jego" cannot possibly refer to John). And 5th is clumsy, but grammatically correct - I'd say "Piłka Marka" and not "Marka piłka".

Edit: one more thing. If Jego means "john's" in the 4th sentence then it is grammatically incorrect. It's about how you arrange topics in a sentence, I think
