Hi,

I'm starting to learn polish and using Michel's method, very quick question: I understand that "this/it is" translates to "to jest" but is it also the same for "is it"? or would it be "jest to"

When asking a question and expecting a yes/no answer it is normal to put the question form "Czy" in front of "to jest." . Kto is also used if asking a question about a person.

True, Vincent. I'll add that 'kim' is also used, i.e kim jesteś? This means, 'who are you?'

Nie can be tagged onto the end which has the same function as our tag/tail questions. Isn't it, can't it etc etc

For example, idziemy do pubu, nie? (we are going to the pub, aren't we?)

I'd be happy to help if I can. You are not asking only for translations but for an explanation of the mechanics of the language. Please remember that I am not Polish but I won't post you things which I am unsure of. Resident Poles are often on hand to help out. I've been living here for 7 years so the basics are a walk in the park :)
