Food / PIZZA & KETCHUP served only in Poland? [159]

If there will be a forum meeting, it should be held in a pizzeria. It'll be amusing seeing people score each other off by putting all kinds of sauce on their pizzas.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

Aah Justy could dodge some bullets, and she prob likes the attention (secretly). :P

I just thought about one thing why my ex-p-girlsfriend was sometimes negative, and that was because it was hard for her to get a good job in the UK and to make a living, although she had a good education.

I think if you move from Poland to the UK it could be hard to find your way, and those things could make you negative.

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

No no no nic random chat - just read Justy's post again! :P

To stay on topic: my ex Polish girlfriend could be really negative but she was fun (and positive) as well. And the girls I met in the Warsaw hostel were really positive, so I don't think the 'pos-neg-thing' has too much todo with nationality.

Hmm ok maybe English gals are more relaxed. But still I think the Polish aren't yet always negative, aren't they..? :o ;-)

Love / Polish Girls negative or positive personality trait? [267]

i'd rather date a slightly less confident or attractive guy

who is a nice person rather than some cocky, arrogant tosser who judges everyone by their looks

Hmm so you're dating someone 'cos he doesn't judge by looks, but then you're the one judging him by his 'less attractive looks'. :D

Language / Pimsleur v Rosetta stone [27]

Basic and Intermediate Polish (Bielec) are very good imho.

Any one had good results with that book?

I have it and I found it really handy! Especially if you start to produce sentences yourself. :-)

Language / Free and accurate Online Polish-English / English-Polish translator? [49]

Where can I find an online translator which is free, user-friendly and accurate?
The current translator simply made me a fool in front of my Polish friend...

Just learn Polish, or else simply talk in English.
For some quick sentences to impress, use PF.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

youtube.com/watch?v=WK9671CNVO4

There's a comic about this and other Polish customs called "Marzi".
dupuis.com/catalogue/UK/al/4748/petite_carpe.html
I found the comic quite interesting. However, it's not (yet) available in English.
But if you can read French, Polish or Dutch.. :-)

Language / Is rosetta stone any good for learning Polish? [51]

I recommend "Basic Polish" to make a start. It is quite tough, but it learns you the grammar very well. When you are done with the first part, you could continue with "Intermediate Polish."

- Of course a decent dictionary (PL->EN / EN->PL) is advisable. -

For your vocabulary I recommend you, to start to read Polish children books. Look for them on-line, or even better; plan a visit to Poland (if you are able to) and buy them in a księgarnia yourself. :)

I have no experience with Rosetta Stone, but I don't think it will learn you as well the grammar and words as the above method does. Pronunciation is learned by just reading every word aloud. Polish has a consequent stress on the penultimate syllable.

If you would really improve your pronunciation, you should go live some time in Poland and/or apply for a language course in Poland.

Life / "Londynczycy" - new Polish soap [62]

Well , who would want to watch a soap opera about people who get a minibus to a factory to pack chocolate bars all day, get the minibus back and then sit in front of satellite telly with a tin of herring and a beer for the evening? Pass the drug dealer please.

They could use that idea for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Polish Edition, in which Willy Wonka has cute happy Poles working in his factory, because they work harder for less money then the "Oompa-Loompas". ;)

Love / My Polish wife doesn't want to move to the UK with me - what to do? [96]

Only, if it makes you happy to make your wife happy...but if you feel miserable, you can;t make her happy - can you? :)

You are right on that. And anyhow I haven't lived long enough in another country to know how it is. However I think you should try your best at least to life in that other country. If over 5 years you still feel very miserable, then you could move back.

Love / Why do Polish women prefer foreigners for boyfriends and husbands? [418]

but i would not like to raise our children there... and i think catholic pl is not the best place too, so it's the time to move somewhere again...

In that case look for The Netherlands. Quite liberal but not as capitalistic as England or the States. And not as "stiff" as Germany. :-)

Love / DO POLISH MEN DATE OLDER WOMEN? [169]

(Although I'm not Polish) I once "dated" a 29 old girl. She was very nice, but she had a child and wanted me instantly to have a family with her. I didn't wanted to make a quick decision on this, so she got upset and went away (and found a guy from 30 who wanted to have a family with her).

I think this might be a problem between ages 20 <-> 30. I think after 30 it is not such a big problem any more since both people are mostly able to have a serious relation with children and stuff.

Personally I think "older" women can be quite attractive. But still I believe the gap must not be too big. Else the balance might be lost. :-)
