Life / Drinking games in Poland [44]

I'm pretty sure that's all we Polish know to do when it comes to drinking. Why complicate a simple thing?

I did hear of something called Polish poker but it didn't sound fun.

A popular drink I've heard of is the Polish Professor.

Add some vodka, pineapple juice, and some 7Up and It tastes pretty good when you get the ingredients to your desired measurements.

Life / Drinking games in Poland [44]

Does anybody know any Polish mix drinks and drinking games?

It seems like all I learned about Polish drinkers is that they like to mix Pepsi and Luksusowa and drink and tell stories all day.

Any crazy games or drinks that are unique to Poland?

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

polish and italian are nice too.

I think the slavic and latin languages sound the best also. They are so free flowing that it sounds like we are speaking a million words a minute to someone who doesn't speak Polish or Spanish.

My cousin's got a black girlfriend...if that counts as a point for the "Non-Racist Poland" tally.
I call him Szczepan "Jungle Fever" Sowa...

History / Polish weapons and militaria - got any? [153]

No, you're asking about Nazi stuff, so I asked you to have some respect for obvious reasons. Perhaps you could start a new thread somewhere else?

He's not a Nazi (from what I know about him) he's probably just collecting a few trinkets from WW2 and would like to get a few of the Nazi things, they are some of the harder ones to find these days.

Sorry I can't help with finding anything, though...neither Polish nor Nazi.

Slavic plus Magyar and a couple other Asiatic influences all mixed into one, but nobody is purely anything these days.

Have you ever been to different slavic country than Poland ?

I have visited Russia and Lithuania for a few weeks each.

I liked to read, however, and have read countless books about other countries and have friends from all over the world.

I agree that Poles and Serbs, or any other Slavs for that matter, seem to be very similar because there have been only recent divisions (in relative history) among the slavic people, but we are very different indeed.

Poles celebrate things differently than Bulgarians, Serbs view the west differently than Czechs, etc.

We all have our differences. I look like my father, but does that make me a complete copy of him? Physically we are similar, but does that mean we are equals mentally?

By the way, there is a chance I will be visiting eastern europe this summer, and one of the destinations would be Hungary. I look forward to being able to go.

Life / Electronics in Poland - what kinds are popular? [20]

I see...Poland is far more advanced than I thought.

I thought they all just lived in caves and colored on the walls using charcoal...seeing as they are so backwards.

Our nations are in fact great conglomerates of old Slavic tribes.

All people living today, in fact, stem from the same group of early african hominids, so everyone alive today comes from the same clan.

Our genetic history has nothing to do with our customs, beliefs, country of origin, etc. Just because we come from the same denomination of people does not mean we are the same. Poles and Serbs are very different, just like Poles and Germans are, and any other groups of people alive today.

but generally harmless and polite in fact.

Ok, so it's not as bad as the US yet. Teens here in the US, for the most part, are very stuck up and obviously were not spanked when they needed it. Don't get me wrong, there are still good kids here, but a lot of them have no respect for adults or the people around them.

Note- your Martian status becoming problem for me if we share history and you, suddenly, considering that you are now Martian, start to denied my existance, my heritage,... claiming that, my, your, our- heritage was in fact always Martian heritage.

I think I get the jist of what you are trying to say.

You think I am trying to deny your people, Serbs, are in any way or form similar to Poles.

Am I right?

or if somebody impose that idea on you

Does that refer to your belief that Germans impose upon everything?

Then, if you accept to be Martian its OK with me, as long as you don`t try to force me to become Martian, same as you.

I'm not forcing you to be anything crow. I just dislike how you claim that Serbs are the same as Poles. There are too many differences among the 2 peoples.

Then, your Martian status becoming problem for me if we share history and you, suddenly, considering that you are now Martian, start to denied my existance, my heritage,... claiming that, my, your, our- heritage was in fact always Martian heritage.

WTF are you talking about? Just fill in "martian" and "earthling" with Pole, Serb, and German please, so I can understand what you are trying to say.

Crow, when will you get it through your skull that JUST BECAUSE POLES AND SERBS ARE BOTH SLAVS, DOES NOT MAKE US THE EXACT SAME PEOPLE.

Genetic origin proves nothing about a group of people except where the came from.

Yes, Poles are slavs.

Yes, Serbs are slavs.

No, Poles and Serbs are not the same. We are 2 completely different groups of people with a few similarities. There will never be another Yugoslavia. Get over it and get on with your life man.

Life / Electronics in Poland - what kinds are popular? [20]

I'm curious about what kind of electronics are popular in Poland, and with which age groups?

For example, here in the US, almost all teens have either a Nintendo, Playstation, or and Xbox along with a computer. They are always updating and buying new versions of all four of these. (staying inside most of their lives as well :P)

Hand-held gaming devices are popular too.

So what kind if trinkets do my friends in "home-country" enjoy most?

:]

Life / Fashion and Style in Poland [174]

This phenomenon is called "fashion" to be exact ;-)

No no no. You see, "fashion" in America starts in California. (like in Europe most of it starts in Paris, from what I hear)

You see, every teen in America "learns" what to wear, say, eat, drink, and look like from tv shows like "The Hills" and all that gay crap. Something starts getting popular in California, and in 6 months it will get popular in New York. Thats how it works 99.9% of the time now a days. With the long hair though, they all just sort of grew out the hair on their own. Nobody on TV had long hair, even bam Margera (who is a god to the skating world because he makes an @ss of himself on TV, he's funny but he can't skate worth $hit) had short hair when all of this started. Tony Hawk = short hair also. All of the big name skaters had short hair when all these kids started growing their's out. Thats why it surprised me...and kind of grosses me out because half of them have really disgusting hair when its long...they just don't know how to keep themselves clean I guess.

It would have been more gradual of it was "fashion" Magda

its a new skater fashion, almost all skaters now wear tight jeans :D

Ya...what's with that? Half of them have chicken legs so they look really odd. The long hair too. I don't understand how everyone at the same exact time decided to grow out their hair. The only people who have short hair that I know of are the athletes.

Genealogy / Rogalin / Oaks [10]

We used to have a pretty big oak in our backyard in New Jersey. Nowhere near 10 feet around, though. Ours was more like 5ft circ.

The dog always chased squirrels up the tree, and they'd crawl down just low enough to tease her.

Genealogy / Rogalin / Oaks [10]

The Rogalin Landscape Park was established in 1997 in order to protect one of the largest in Europe concentrations of centuries - old pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur) that grow in the Warta River valley, and to protect numerous backwaters as well as certain historical and cultural values.
The famous Rogalin oaks have become a symbol of the Wielkopolska region.

Genealogy / Rogalin / Oaks [10]

Merged: Oaks of Rogalin

All I know about this is that there are three oak trees in Rogalin named after Lech, Czech and Rus, and that they are over 700 years old.

Anybody know any other legends associated with the trees? I tried google but it all led to wikipedia or some minor sights who have more ads than info.
