UK, Ireland / I think Poles in the UK are COOL PEOPLE [17]

...Well, things may be not as good as they used to, but Britain is still better place to live in than Poland :):....

27 and 33 - it is not so far from each other. Especially comparing strong imperial colonial ( for years) country and country which was drained and squeezed by Russia for years....

It looks that in a few years this ranking can look quite different.

UK, Ireland / And you wonder why there is Anti-Polish feeling in the UK [187]

if you want to be professional compare amount to crimes to amount of emigrants of different naionalities. I don't think that Polish will be so high.

Otherwise it is lots of rubbish.

I read lately quite a few articles about random attacks at Polish -just someone was spekaing in polish on the phone, or 29 year old man was killed by British hooliogans and police said that 'he was in the wrong place at the wrong time'- so it looks that maybe some 'locals' have attitude problems.

Food / Where to buy British mature Cheddar Cheese and salted butter in Poland? [289]

>>>foods have their fans but most outsiders consider them horrible>>>>

very true:-)

Ha,ha, milk that has gone off- kefir I guess.

I suppose I am lucky as there are so many shops with polish food in Uk now....

I know real gravy is ok, but some people use packet one on top of nearly everything...

Food / Where to buy British mature Cheddar Cheese and salted butter in Poland? [289]

I live in England and it makes me smile as you miss things which I don't like and never buy here.:-)

Salty butter- What is the purpose for it....? No sandwich with anything sweet like honey, jam...but I like proper English, unsalted butter.
cheddar- my least favourite cheese...but again I love Welsh goat cheese.

And things like gravy- all this powder/granulated stuff put on the food to kill its natural flavour....

UK, Ireland / Crying Polish truck driver on British roads is Internet hit [269]

Bloke broke the law - everyone agrees but.....

was it really needed to bring so many policemen to stop one (1) polish lory driver?

It reminds me series of old polish jokes like 'How many policemen you need to put light bulb on'.:-)

Life / Poland's Environment, recycling [79]

I think that Poland is slowly catching up.

I don't mind all these bins in UK at least rubbish is segregated and recycled.

One good thing in Poland is that in shops we have to pay for single plastic bags so more people have their longer "lasting ones". In Uk they give you free bags everywhere I guess that it is for advert-promotion purposes but environmently friendly?......

Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

I have always felt safe in Poland, more so than walking through my own city late at night...

I think that this is kind of prejudice. In UK noone says that Polish people steal....ok they can get drunk...live together in big groups...but in general they work hard and don't cause much trouble.

I think that for German we are all poor and thieves...

It makes me smile when they say that noone likes Polish...What about them?

I don't want to sound mean but they are the least liked nation in Europe.

Life / Are Polish people open to others? [20]

They are a bit similar...there is only one difference English likes putting themselves a a bit down , they like "understatements"...but theya rs till quite confident ....Polish like to feel a bit worse as victims.( I suppose our history has much to do with it) ...and ...we don't have always much confidence.

Genealogy / Is tallness common among Polish people? [201]

Yes the Dutch are very tall, which in itself amazes me that with them long leg strides it takes them so long to get to the bar and buy a round of drinks.

Maybe they do small steps:)

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

Your definitely not weird. It's the best Polish comedy made after 1989, if not in the entire history of Polish cinema!!

I find it amusing.....really good.:)

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

I quite liked dzien Swira....maybe i am bit weird?:)

I have heard about polish writer katarzyna Grochala and when I was last time in Poland i bought DVD "Nigdy w zyciu" I haven't seen it yet but it seems to be good little romantic film.

I quite like some of old polish comedies like: Jak rozpetalem II wojne swiatowa,Kogel-Mogel, Kingsajz, Vabank....

I am not big fan of Keslowski.....he is so sad, gloomy,......depressing....

Life / What I miss and don't miss about Poland [64]

lef,

there are 2 different things- few drinks to relax and binge drinking.

My reply was to Davidpeake about English in Poland.

You must be living with lots of strange people, life without a drink would be very dull

maybe, for me listening to all crap said but drunk people is dead dull.

Life / What I miss and don't miss about Poland [64]

The problem is that heavy drinking is promoted and fashionable and cool in UK.

Even in the papers you can see pictures of prince Harry or William pissed.....
So- even if some young people don't really enjoy big drinking they do it to be accepted.

I miss....

trams
-nice , cosy coffee bars with fresh coffes, milk shakes ( fresh) , cakes
-food juice bars
-architecture
-chats with my friends
-polish romantism and craziness
-feeling of belonging there ( I will never feel it in UK)

I don't miss- all situatuin on the work market. Unamplyment, unfair treatmetnt and taking advantage of emplyees.

But they slowly start in Krakow.

In Poland we have equivalent called "wieczor panienski", "wieczor kawalerski".....but it is probbaly not so mad.
